Hi Steve
I'm afraid I must disagree, the sounds seem to be the weakest part of this otherwise superb addon, which is a shame.
They need a full re-write in my opinion.
Even then there appears to be some very strange sounds coming from the class 40 cab, which don't seem to be related to the engine sound at all.
Although I've only been able to have one quick run so far, more time at the weekend.
Cheers
Jon
Hi Jon.
I must also disagree. I cant comment on the class 40 because I neither no much about them or have ever been in the cab of one, however having driven the class 47 the sounds seem fine including (as I wrote earlier) rattling in the cab when the engine is idle.

My approach to this is quite simple:
1 - Do the engines sound like the real thing - IMO Yes.
2 - Are the sounds stopping the sim performing - No.
3 - Does running the routes/stock through conbuilder bring up a list of errors - TBH who cares - I'm driving trains on a route that I like from an era I remember from holidays as a child.

Jon - Maybe I don't understand MSTS as well as you, Its quite obvious that you care alot more about MSTS and its workings than I do, I just want to occasionally drive trains and this route allows me to do this and it does it well.

Regards
Steve

Hi
I'm sorry if you view my comments that way Chris.
You may have missed my positive comments on the 47 model though.

Hi Steve

I can agree with most of what you post.
Obviously the quality of the sounds is only opinion.
But you're wrong when you say the missing wav sounds and incorrect sms files are not stopping the performance of MSTS.
Surely you can see its impossible to play a missing sound.
Although I'm not debating it here there has in the past been evidence, enough sound fault's can cause MSTS to eventually fail.
And lets be clear ,I am only commenting on one small part of what otherwise is a terrific addon.

Cheers

Love the scenery so far!

that ticking noise is very similar to an engine tickover, I love it!

However so far I have driven 47555 from Holyhead to Llandudno West..I would have gone on to Chester but...slow approach to station COUPLER BROKEN...booo! :x

oh well time to scrap that and take a rat for a spin...so a note for Patch 6...strengthen those couplers..its put me off playing the activity all over again

Depart llandudno no problems i must admit the loco-coach links a boucy one one points. when coming off tubular (Conwy) Bridge approaching Llandudno just let it coast into the station, ignore the 50mph sign thats there for stuff passing through. 20 is good enough and i was bang on time too.

Whats' the brake / coupling config of the stock? I know some of the older stuff is chain - vac, just wondered if that applies to all of it :)

Hi
Most of it is Chain/Air AFAIK
Although the MK1s have both Air and Vac versions.

Hi All

Have put NWC in computer, P4 3.0 and 2GB Ram, also X1950 PRO. Keep getting messages saying "SERVICE 1K38 IS OUT OF DATE. PLEASE RE-SAVE IN ACTIVITY EDITOR". I am running Bin Patch, Train Store. I have patch 5 on disk.
I have reduced sounds, settings etc, still to no avail. Please excuse my ignorance, how do I save it in Activity Editor etc?
Any help will be much appreciated.

Many Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Start the activity editor. On the file menu select open and pick the activity in question. When it opens, just open the file menu again and click save. Exit the editor and try it. It should work ok now :)
