Train Store suddenly stopped working

I've a problem with Train Store. I tried starting it up a few days ago and it asked me to select the folder path for Train Store. Why it wanted to do that I don't know. I didn't do anything to it the last time Train Store worked. So I try to select the Train Store folder in my C:\ drive, and this error message came up.

As I said, I didn't do any major change since the last time Train Store worked. So this didn't need to happen. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it to no avail. Can anyone please assist? I won't be able to play MSTS properly again unless I get this issue sorted.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi
I'm guessing that you've lost your registry entries for MSTS

Thanks, but I don't think I fully understand the instructions in that link. If I can exercise a little more patience... :wink:

EDIT: No I can't. I'm confused.

I got to Step 6 and I get an error message saying "Invalid character entered in the FILTER string", followed by another saying the same thing, followed by a message saying "Run-time error '9': Subscript out of range", and Route Riter closed down. :(

So I just hit the registry editor for whatever drive my MSTS files are in (in my case, C:\), and that'll be it?

Hi
There should be a readme with the download.

Mmm. Yes there is. And that's what I did. Only when I try to select the same folder path to Train Store, I get the same error message as before.

I guess I have to uninstall everything MSTS associated and reinstall them, only not going to install Train Store ever again. It was only installed in the first place to get Thames-Mersey to work, which it didn't after a little while.

Thanks for your help anyway. I appreciate it. :wink:

Hi
You shouldn't have to do that, as totally unstoring everthing, should put all the files back in MSTS.

I realise I wouldn't be able to unstore everything if Train Store didn't work, so what I did was copy and merge the ROUTES and TRAINS folders from the Train Store folder to with the Train Simulator folder. After that I managed to get MSTS Editors and Tools working, but the game itself didn't work. Guess I well and truly buggered it up. :(

If its simply a registry problem, you should be able to get around it the following way:

Rename your existing Train SImulator folder to something else (msts backup is a good option);
Uninstall msts, reboot and reinstall a clean copy from the CD's. This will replace the registry entries;
Delete the new installation (not Uninstall - just delete the folders)
Rename your old installation back.

This will have fixed the registry entries. Now you will have to make sure trainstore is pointing to the correct location, you do that from trainstores tools i think from memory. Then do an unstore all to synchronise your trainsimulator folder with your train store folders.

Reboot your PC and try a single activity using easy trainstore.

Dont ever use system restore as that is known to get things in a tangle :(

Report back :)

OK it's been a long time. I lost my MSTS disc 1. Eventually I found it and tried sorting it out. Renamed the Train Simulator folder to MSTS Backup, uninstalled then reinstalled it, deleted the new Train Simulator folder, renamed the backup back to Train Simulator, and when selecting a Train Store folder, I get this.

Otherwise when opening MSTS on its own, I get a tiny MProfile window. Nothing else happens.
