Class 251 Diesel Blue Pullman
I have downloaded both UKTS File 854 and UKTS File 940 for the Class 251 Diesel Blue Pullman.
This is an excellent representation of the 6 car Midland Pullman.
However I was wondering what needs to be done to be able to create the 8 car Western Pullman? Obviously the kitchen and parlour carriages can be utilised, but presumably the driving trailer needs to be amended to have Pullman only on the sides rather than Midland Pullman as the above download. (I received the latest MLI today which includes the Blue Pullman - hence the interest.) In addition it would be interesting to create the 12 car version - comprising 2 No 6 car sets following transfer of the Midland version to the Western area - tried on the Western Region.
Firstly do I need to obtain permission to change the relevant file to remove the word Midland from the unit side - ignore the fact that I don't know how to yet?
Secondly do I also need permission to change the livery to include for full yellow ends and the final corporate reverse Inter City livery - again ignore the fact that I don't know how to yet?
Ruf
PS I see this as a chance to see whether I have both the ability, wherewithal and patience.
PPS Still beavering away at the other tasks/challenges i have set myself!

Hi Ruf
Yes, you'd need Richard Scott's (author of the Blue Pullman model) permission to upload any modified files. Without taking anything away from Richard's achievements, his original model was made a long time ago in MSTS modelling terms - hopefully he'll agree that an update is timely.

Well I for one would welcome an update including the driving trailer for the Western region version. Could live without the reverse IC livery, but of course I wouldn't object . . .ashgray wrote:Hi Ruf

Re: Class 251 Diesel Blue Pullman
Thanks for the suggestion but I have actually downloaded that file.
I was hoping to create a Western Blue Pullman as well as a Midland Pullman. Need to decide whether I could manage to amend the appearance in order to change Midland Pullman to Pullman, and then seeking permission to attempt the change!

Re: Class 251 Diesel Blue Pullman
Hi Ruf, I actually made this change(only the removal of Midland) quite a while ago for my personal use so no permissions were necessary.
About 10 minutes work from copying the original trainset folder and renaming the .eng files (i wanted the Midland and Western units) to painting out Midland and making a new consist.
I vaguely remember a problem with the bounding box width on these units causing de-rails when passing other trains on finescale track, so maybe something to look at.
cheers,Clive

Re: Class 251 Diesel Blue Pullman
I'm not too concerned about any Bounding Box issues as I can use Route Riter to rationalise those parts of the ENG, WAG and SD files. Where I am derailed is the name change, but I will find the relevant tutorials and . . . .casperdog wrote:Hi Ruf, I actually made this change(only the removal of Midland) quite a while ago for my personal use so no permissions were necessary.

PS This too is for my personal use but the idea of being able to upload and giving something back is an aim of mine.

Hi ruf
If you look at my uploads 'i do give something back' with no restrictions to their use.
In the case of the pullman i also built a new cab but wanted permission to use some levers etc. No response from the original designers meant no upload as the actual change to the unit was minimal.

Hi Clive
Its quite possible the original authors have moved on..... so they may not reply.
The early cabs were based on the freely available Kuju Deltic cab.... so those levers could be used.
Cheers

Re: Class 251 Diesel Blue Pullman
Hi Jon
Sorry,I wasn't quite clear.
I found a bit of on-line film with a few snipets of the cab and the desk looked like a class 47 might fit . It looks OK after shuffling things around but unless i'm sure i wont upset the original author, i dont bother uploading.
Quite a few of my steam cabs are 'non-standard' (usually just a different view down the boiler). I have toyed with the idea of contacting those authors because really all they are is a new Front view so ony a new front ace would need to be downloaded but with common cabs popular, that would probably cause problems.
Cheers, Clive
