Routes

Post by icornish »

Thanks to members of this forum, now I'm happily driving trains again!!!! (much to the chagrin of my wife!)

Can any one tell me if there is a route for the line that goes from Leicester to Peterborough via Oakham? I'd love to relive some childhood memories along that line...

Also, is the watercress line/mid hants line available?

Thanks in advance..

Ian
P.S. Off to Guildford now with Tangmere.

Leicester is a bit too "Midland" for Mid East Plus but of course the railways were a network and obviously cross country was as significant for traffic as the long drags North/South. The line left the East Coast Mainline just North of Peterborough and headed off to Melton Mowbray on it's way to Leicester. The first five miles or so of this track are in Mid East Plus and Helpston Station is featured in the route. My research found that there was some interesting traffic, in the form of imported meat from Europe, that went regularly to the Pet Food manufactureres at Melton Mowbray. This saw the use of Interfrigo vans from Europe in MEP's era. We've some "exclusive" examples of these Interfrigo and "ferryvans" made especially for the route for this traffic.

Interesting that such a powerful loco is used here for four empty vans!

If you remember any destinations East of Peterborough they'll be included and of course MEP will take in from just North of York to Kings Cross and Moorgate in the South.

The route is in final beta and testing phase now but it's huge and therefore no estimates of release can be given.

I'm working on a route map for the routes documents right now but there's a lot of annotations to be added before it's ready.

As well as the Pet Food manufacturers, there are also the Meat Pies, of Melton Mowbray fame!

Am very interested in the Mid East Plus developments - will keep an eye out for them :-)

Thanks to all.

  I was trying to avoid mentioning the pies  didn't want to infer that there might be any shared ingredients :o ....even if pet foor is probably better for your health than the good (?) old british pork pie loaded with saturated fats and mega caloried. Of course the cold wet nose and shiny coat might not suit everyone though
