Using ELR STD4 Mogul Sounds With Other Locos

Hello,
I've recently returned to Msts, and thanks to a small pc upgrade and (I believe) Trainstore am now able to achieve adequate msts performance, it still stutters quite a lot but is now almost a pleasure to drive. Have installed my long ago bought Bala Hub V4 (just in time for V5?), and sought out Matt Carey's superb STD4 75027 for the route. Matt suggests using the ELR add on pack's STD4 Mogul sounds with his model (which like the model of 76069 in the pack are brilliant), and seeing as I'm lucky enough to own this pack installed the sounds and changed 75027's eng file accordingly. Only thing is 75027 sounds as if it's "blowing off" continuously during an activity, I've lowered the boiler pressure by working the engine especially hard but to no avail. I know very little about msts sounds so how can I solve this, or should I simply try a different sounds package?
Any advice would be great,
Clay.
PS.Would add that have tried msts sounds set to maximum which makes no difference.

Hi Clay
I have experienced similar "blowing off" effects on several sound sets that use ELR sound sources. I believe these ELR sounds came with Stuart Williamson's "GWR Loco Sound Set" (UKTS File 6481).
The ones I have used are for the Black 5 ( 5305 recordings) and the 9F (92220 recordings). With these sound sets the "blowing off" effect disappears if the cylinder drain cocks are left open (key C) for something like 20 secs after you pull away, never to return (that is until you use that loco again).
This may or may not help but give it a try.
Cheers
Peter

Hello Peter,
I'll certainly try the cylinder cocks suggestion, it's true that 76079 uses 5305 recordings, It would be nice to get these working well on other locos as they seem to work so naturally with the mogul.
Many thanks!

I just tried opening and closing the cylinder cocks quickly and the problem disappeared, being honest I think the sound that I was hearing was apparently that of the cc's and not the safety valves

. Still, problem solved in a round about way.
Thanks again.

as 76079 is one of our favourite engines we did considerable work on the eng file and reckon we've got it just about right. (in its original form the eng file made the engine way too powerful and inevitably it blew off all the time). We also made important changes to the 5305-based sms files. Taken together we think it's now a fabulous drive - all it needs now is for someone to make a stunning model of the loco!
if you'd like to have a look at our eng file as a starting point, please send me a p.m. and we'll take it from there

Not entirely true. Most ELR locos make this sound, and as has been stated, they are cylinder . sounds and not blowing off sounds, if it was blowing off you would see white steam coming out the safety valves. The sound also comes back if you stop the loco, then restart it, and open the cylinder cocks again. Personally i think this is a great touch to MSTS locos, and i have given many other locos in my msts collection ELR sounds.

I have noticed pretty much every time I drive steam locos on MSTS that the blowing-off sounds seem to get 'out-of-step'; i.e. suddenly for no apparent reason they are played when the locomotive isn't blowing off, and that they go silent when there is steam being vented! I think this is possibly a bug with the game code?
Either way its really annoying if you're trying to conserve steam and not blow off, as you are rewarded with constant background noise.

believe this is a 'bug' as you suspect - but strangely seems to affect some engines and not others.
only way round it seems to be to save the activity while sounds are out of sync and then reopen - sounds are usually back in line then.
