class 460 GEX emu

Post by bharrison »

Hi,

I down loaded a class 460 GEX emu for the Gatwick Express Knightmare activity on the Lsc route.
I've manged to get the cab of the class 334 emu attached to the unit. but when i try to run it and test Iget a message saying failed to find 377.eng file.sms then failed to load cabview and the sim returns to windows When i looked in the foledr for the .eng file there Isn't one listed at all
I'm aware that the unit needs the 377 sounds to work.

Is this fixable.

Thanks
Thank You

You need to get into the habit of checking readme files BEFORE installing anything. Most stock downloads will have a readme file telling you what else is needed. You should download anything else needed or, if you want to alias cabs and sound to other stock, you should do all that before installing the activity and the stock.

Check the stock out, make sure have everything, change the eng files if necessary to point to whatever you want to use with it. Then install the stock and make sure it works in explore mode BEFORE installing the activity.

I think you need to be a bit more disciplined in your approach, you cant just go downloading stuff without making sure you can get it working first.

From what you are saying it is missing a .eng file for a Class 377. There are only three versions avaliable. One is on UKTS, as shown below, the second is on the Commercial route, London to Brighton Express, and the third is on the newer commercial route, London & South Coast.

To narrow it down more, in the 'readme' file, does it mention that you will require any of the above routes to be installed, or does it give you a file ID for the UKTS 377?

An easy way to do this if you have a working cab /sounds with another unit is to copy the cab/sound folder from the unit that is working into the units folder you wish to use, open each folder and make a note of the .cvf file name in the cab folder and the appropriate .sms file names in the sound folder. Then open the eng file of the unit you wish to update, look for the lines that say "Sound" - rename these to match the .sms name in the sound folder, look for the "Cabview" name and rename this to match the cvf file in the cabview folder. This saves alot of fiddling around copying and pasting etc from other files, you also know that as soon as you've copied the folders into the directory and renamed the eng file then it should work ok!
