Free to a good home - everything has a new home now

Post by arabiandisco »

Hello...

I've come to the conclusion that I'm never going to play MSTS again (what little time I spend on train sims is spent on RS). So if anyone wants any of the following for the P&P cost (I would guess that it'll be less than a fiver, but that will depend on how many you want) then drop me a PM (I don't check the MSTS forums so replies to this thread are likely to go unread).
  • MSTS Original Discs GONE
  • Blue Arrow SVR add-on GONE
  • SVR Diesel Gala GONE
  • Northern Rail Routes v5.0 GONE
  • Thames Mersey v3.2 GONE
  • North West England v2 GONE
  • Bala Hub v4 GONE
  • Mid East v1.0 GONE
  • Coal Road (Australian route - mile long trains etc) GONE
  • Seeland Route (it's been so long I'm not entirely sure what that is!) GONE
I realise these are all rather old now, but if noone wants them then they'll just go in the bin, which would be a bit of a shame. I've not checked that any of them actually work, but they all live in boxes so I can't see why they wouldn't.

If any of the authors of work included on the CDs above have any issue with me making them available, let me know and I'll withdraw the relevant offers.

Note: Everything has got a new home now. Thanks to everyone who has shown an interest - hope you enjoy it all, since it's all good stuff!

It's a shame to see someone discarding what was an absorbing hobby for a long time, but each to his own. I'm seriously considering going in the opposite direction and selling off/giving away my copy of Rail Simulator! Despite perseverance and a lot of frustration, I simply cannot come to terms with it, so once I get back home after the holiday, MSTS will be reinstalled onto one or other of my PCs and I'll go back to enjoyable train driving again.

Watch the relevant RS forum for further information - I have to find what i did with the disks when I moved house

Hi Geoff

Bearing in mind KRS is now only £8.99 new....... ......... I am assuming that you then need to download 100s of Mbs to patch it to a 'workable' sim.... unless they've repressed the masters?
I would imagine there's probably 100s of the Dvds sat in corners of peoples houses.
I'm just pleased I only paid £10.89 when I got mine, a couple of months after release.

Cheers
Jon

One of those DVDs is sat in the corner of my dining room. I paid £29.99 ( :( ) for RS, ran it once, was unimpressed, and deinstalled it.

Despite its' age, MSTS still knocks socks off RS, and until such time the latter comes even close to MSTS in terms of ease of manipulation, I will not give it the time of day :) . Just my own opinion of course,
Richard

I bought my copy from ukts ran it a couple of times and gave up, I could never get any of the down load addon routes or loco's to work, only good thing was I got a years premium membership.which I used for down loading plenty of MSTS 1 items.

I just hope msts 2 will be easier to use,but I will not buy it until it gets positive feed backs, and also an up turn of the pound against the doller, with the pound crashing against the Doller and Euro it makes foriegn items out of my reach at present.

There also looks like there are going to be some great new routes and stock for msts 1 due out in 2009 that will keep me going for the forseable future.

I found that I hadn't used the stuff in about 3 years, so clearly I've moved on from it! I'd rather it all went to someone who will use & enjoy it than just occupied space in my house.

I've found RS much easier to get on with than MSTS ever was, as well as vastly better looking, but I only play that because my neighbours would complain if I played my guitar at 10pm...

Wouldn't life be dull if we were all the same!

Just like most things such as hobbies and in particular passions, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I wouldn't class myself as the best judge in that respect as I have only used MSTS1 but my limited experience says that for me this is the best platform to enjoy virtual railways.

What one does with it is a personal thing as in surfing the forums I see that most enthusiasts seem to favour one area more than another, be it route building, activity creation, stock recreation and more recently discovered those who create and present the videos - this latter has caused me some problems as I find myself thinking that I would like to try that.

At times it quite hurts my head when I am trying to decide which area to tackle at any particular time - do I drive a train, do I "fiddle" with Sound and/or CabView folders. Then again what about trying to create my own activities - perhaps I could change downloaded activities to different eras and hence change the stock, no I'll try and mend broken paths - then again perhaps not after I messed up my MSTS and had to reinstall.

The above may seem a bit off the thread but what I'm trying to say is that for me there is so much to offer from MSTs even if it is old in computing terms! With so much to do in all areas I can not see myself changing or becoming bored - and by the time such a thought entered my head, I will have retired into penury so that I couldn't afford to change.

I have noted that the uploaded stuff for MSTS is reducing and that for RS seems to be increasing, and perhaps MSTS1 will become a "collectors" item if and when MSTS2 appears. I have commented on this latter point before, and hence it behoves me to learn how to carry out all the above.

Anyway enough of my ramblings, I had better get to bed and get some sleep before girding my loins to do all the things I want to in MSTS1. Oh I suppose I will have to carry on working as well as keep the better half happy - one always has to pay a price!

All the best, Ruf

Strangely I've noticed it the other way......... about 3 to 1 mostly.......... even if including the hundreds of re-paints of the default Class 47.
MSTS is already a collectors item for me, as I have copies of it in all its released forms......... now thats a sad collector.

I can't believe that you could be sad so long as you continue to produce such excellent DMU models. :-?

Every time I examine what First Generation DMUs are missing, up pops another fine model . . :D

Oh well back to cooking the tea . . now that is sad!!!!!
