Not exactly true. The question was can we view locos without firing up MSTS? Many of the locos that are in my TRAINSET directory have a loco.ace which does give a good indication of the appearance of the loco.

Programs to view models?

loco.ace
The loco.ace is there to be included when you call a loco in 'drive a train'.
What is wanted is a program to view work in progress without having to go through the lengthy process of loading & unloading MSTS.
This question was asked on train-sim, if I remember nobody knew of any suitable program.
BTW I always now clear MSTS completely. I found a couple of times that having it & another program running caused my monitor to resize itself. The last time I had a screen with about 20 x 30 resolution & only managed to get it to something sensible by pure luck.

im not sure if it has already been sugested but using an idea someone posted take screen shots, and create a database in microsoft access or lotus 1-2-3 then if everyone does it for their locos or uploads they can be shared or posted along with uploads and when the file is downloaded the viewer can see a pic info on max speed , length etc...

Can I add words of encouragement here - this would be an extremely useful thing to have - in my extremely short experience of Trainz 1.0 last year this was one thing they had built in which looked really good.decapod wrote:No worries (as you say in Oz) Mike
I was considering doing one before this thread started, it's "simple" enough (if you know how) but it may be a short while off (in between models and 3DC plugins)
Of course you would need to be able to place a background (be it a bmp or another object) into the tool!
