HELP ME PLEASE!!!! TROUBLE RE-INSTALLING MSTS

Post by Serjeant »

I un-installed MSTS because the TRAIN and CONSIST files were becoming large and unmanageable. I re-installed the program in its original location but MSTS wont even load. Crashes on opening screen with "send/dont send" error notice. Does anyone have any ideas please?!!!
What to do next. Would complete system restore be the answer?
PS. Have checked everything with Norton Utilities and no problems found.

Sounds like you need to run the uninstall procedure, and then go in to program files\microsoft games and completely bin the train simulator directory. Then do a reinstall and see if that helps...

When uninstalling\reinstalling MSTS,I do the following, but after analysing what I wish to keep and delete.
Any route that I wish to keep,I copy\paste to the desktop, and similarly with the "train station" folder in main MSTS folder(this is Route Control program).I delete the rolling stock required by the routes that are not backed up,IE the ones I'm finished with, from the trainset folder.

After uninstalling,I delete the "Train simulator" folder from "Microsoft games" folder.I then defrag to get all other files contiguous.

When I've reinstalled from original CD's,I drag from the desktop,"train station" into the NEW main MSTS folder, and the routes to the NEW routes folder.

On running Route Control,It comes up with "backed up" con files calling for the missing rolling stock, previously deleted.I delete these files from the route control "backup" folder, and that's it,I think.

Full Defrag

A full defrag is a must for most simulator's, It is easier to install and keeps MSTS in one place rather than all over the hard drive. I was told to defrag after installation aswell as this also helps.
