Which UK route
Am getting ready for the christmas hols, and want to order a new route, most routes I have are german, so thought I had better get a UK one.
UK routes I have are, LSE, GE, dorset coasr, west coast express, London brighton, west coastway, thames mersey, and verns 5 route compilation.
What would people reccomend?

Re: Which UK route
For steam era routes, I'd have no hesitation in recommending, in no particular order: Evesham, Cambrian 2 (especially now the expansion pack is available), Steyning, LMS Skipton - Carlisle, and the fictional but superb Westvale route. You already have the diesel and more modern era routes i'd personally recommend, but you could try ELR (East Lancashire Railway), particulalry as it features some of the best cabviews and sounds available for MSTS.

Re: Which UK route
I'd certainly add the Bala Hub, but I have no idea when (or if) that is going to reappear as available on a community CD. I seem to remember reading that work was progressing on sorting it out and making it ready for re-release, but that seems an awful long time ago now - does anyone else have any news ?

Always helps to know a little more. Are modern era routes your thing? Do you have a preference of Steam/Diesel/Electric. Do you like branch lines or mainlines etc. Any info may point us directly to a route that could be suitable.NickG wrote:Am getting ready for the christmas hols, and want to order a new route, most routes I have are german, so thought I had better get a UK one.

Re: Which UK route
Thanks for all the advice guys, have got bala hub, and yorkshire coast alredy.
Prefer modern routes.
Not got any of europeanbahns east coast series, or london south coast, is it worth buying the latter, if you have LBE and west coastway. Don't have midland mainline either.
Was wondering about steyning, or maybe BATS southern region. whats everyones opinion, along with the above?

Re: Which UK route
Steyning's a great route with some interesting activities, and BATS Southern Region has a huge selection of activities, locos and stock which can open up all kinds of choices - but they're both predominantly steam and early diesel, so it really depends on how modern you want a route to be...

Right, probably going for steyning and southern, I know southern has stock which is good to use on LSE.
Just one question, is the east coast series or midland mainline worth a look at?

If you havn't got the BATS LNER rolling stock CDs I would consider them.
"Fire and Wires" will give you a good selection of stock including locos, coaches and wagons not available (yet) as freeware.

Got fires and wires and lner BAtS stuff in the sale cheap a couple of years ago, while I would not have payed full price as there was no route, the stock is excellent

Re: Which UK route
If you want modern routes your best best is Dorset Coast which has over 100 activities. Thames Mersey which has 150 activities and my personal favourite North West England.

Re: Which UK route
Was looking in to getting BATS Southern region but I read this on amazon feeback and it has kind of put me off it a bit.
I can find very little to praise in this add-on for MS Train Sim. It is more resource hungry than the London & South-East add-on, and that's saying something! I can run the latter on my system, but Southern Region is just a slide show. The cabs, other than for the Bulleid pacifics, are uninspiring. Also, the activities are, to say the least, odd. Having activities where the majority of the service is for a route not provided, e.g. you get to operate a Waterloo to Alton service for the couple of miles between Woking and Brookwood, a miniscule part of the total route, seems to me perverse in the extreme. That's true of several of the activities.
Can anyone clarify if this true? Also can anyone give me details on the size of the route and the activities?
Thanks

Re: Which UK route
Still wondering about getting this route, Game have it advertised for £1.94 Ithink, but out of stock.
I worked in woking for a number of years, and was a local to the area, hence my intrest.
Is it right to say the stock is absolutly excellent, and useful for other routes such as LSE and Lyme regis?
