How much do Ace files impact performance?

Hi Mick,

I agree with you, it is just a pity that all those who worked to improve MSTS to the stage it is at today had not also tried to help with RS, then it might also have improved to a much greater extent.

Instead of that, virtually no freeware modellers have attempted to make models for RS and we are stuck with the pay as you go items.

Anyway, I look forward to the new RS2 and will reserve judgement until I see what it can/can't do :-)

Good luck with MEP, I really liked the early version I saw.

Changing the ACE format to DXT1 would have a greater impact - I think RouteRiter had an option to do this.

There is also my SaveTex utility (http://www31.brinkster.com/decapod/ under Train Sim Programs on the left menu) that will scan all routes and compress any uncomressed textures - saves loads of disk space.
Taken a while but I finally used that programme on my laptop, decapod, and it knocked about 40mb off the file size of my route. In the sim it's running ok and it definitely helps lose some of the "jerkiness" when loading tiles.
