Help Needed

Hey, well I need a bit of help/advice on Microsoft Train Sim...

I want to buy this game but does anyone know what places sell it and maybe the cheapest price I could get for it? I have had a look on play.com and the cheapest I found was around £10 but i'm aware that you can buy it for £4:99 in some shops, what shops would still sell it though? :-?

Another question I have is... I have 2 computers and my new one has Vista so I know MSTS won't work on that one but my old computer which is windows XP which would work with MSTS as far as I know... The only problem is, I bought this in 2001 and I have never updated the graphics card! It has 32mb video memory (I think that has something to do with graphics!) and a Nvidia Geforce2 MX 200 graphics card. I know it's very very outdated now but BVE 4 manages to run on it, the graphics aren't the best they could be though, but they aren't too bad.

Hi Andy

MSTS will run under Vista see http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewforum.php?f=273

It will also run on your MX200 card, as that's what I used to have.

You will just have to look around to get the best price for MSTS, ebay is good there are always a few new copies on there.

Thanks for that reply :) Much appreciated.

I would use ebay but I don't have an account there, I know that some game shops used to sell Microsoft Train Sim. PC World used to, i'm not sure if they still do though. On their website they don't sell it but they have a big store in Leicester not far from my house so they could sell it up there, i'll probably go down and have a look.

Did it run ok on your MX200 card? I find BVE does run as I mentioned but when it gets into built up areas it jerks a bit and there is errors on some longer routes, like the timetable being all wrong and not able to read, also the track not being very good detail wise.

That's good news it can work on Vista :D I would prefer to run it on my XP system as it would be easier but it's good to know that if it struggles on my old computer that I can play it on my new one.

You got a bargain. I paid close to £70 in early 2001, but i did get my copy in advance of the UK by ordering from the USA. I believe the list price before it went to the Explosiv lable was £39.99

Worth checking TESCO for the explosiv version.......... I got it for £4.99 a few months back.
My son paid £24.99 in April 2003, for the UK version 1.3 at PCWorld.
I also bought an original American version on Ebay for £3.99....... as a collectors piece.

Thanks for the replys guys :) This forum seems to have a good community :D

I'm heading into town tomorrow so i'll go into GAME and have a look, fingers crossed! The only problem I have found with the ones online is that the cheapest from amazon and play.com is around £10 and I know with a bit of searching in game shops I could get it for 4:99, only problem is... Do some game shops still sell them? Hopefully they do, it's a very old game and I doubt copies are made anymore so they might be hard to find in shops.

Can anyone give me an honest opinion on which is the better train sim... I have been on Youtube this evening and had a look at the game 'Train Simulator' and it looked nice! Is that a better game than MSTS?

Some Tesco and Asda stores sold it as well, so they might be worth a look.

"Train Simulator" should be the same as MSTS (MicroSoft Train Simulator). They could be incorrectly referring to Rail Simulator which does have fancier graphics than MSTS, but requires more horespower to run it.
