Having recently bought a mega PC and returned to MSTS after a couple of years messing with BVE and KRS I have re-discovered the joy of the huge amount of stock, routes and activities available for MSTS.
I know there are several new routes and add-ons available that have come out in the last year or 2 and I am looking for any opinions on which are good and worth investing in or downloading??
I am a fan of the high detail routes like Great Eastern and Dorset Coast etc and also recently bought the new DVD version of Thames-Mersey which is superb and bang up to date with stock, cabs etc.
What are West Coast Express and Cross City like?? how do they compare in quality to GEastern etc?? Are there any other routes out that I might not be aware of??
Any opinions or input much appreciated
Thanks
Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,
Have you got Burton - Derby and Cannock Chase, both are set in the late 50's early 60's covering Steam and Early Diesel.
These are two fantastic Community CD Routes by Don Hinton (Bigant), which have stacks of Activities and Rolling Stock supplied and loads more available to download.

If you like preserved routes, you cant go wrong with the Severn Valley and West Somerset add on for MSTS, they are both superb routes in my opinion

Hi Jimmy,
I have only had a very brief look at the West Coast Express and I found it very disappointing. The Pendolino was in IC Livery (what's that all about?) and it wouldn't seem to go any faster than about 80mph. I accept I may have been doing something wrong.
I would say the Great Eastern is far superior.
The Thames Mersey is compeletely unbelievable! A freeware Route that big and with so much detail, how can that possibly be?
If you like steam then I must recommend the Cambrian 2 route. It can only be ordered from http://www.3Dtrainstuff.com and costs 50 dollars (I've no idea what that is in UK beer tokens, it was £25 when I got it). It's much bigger than the Cambrian 1 and has tons of stock. There are also loads of extra suitable locos from UKTS. One downside is that it's not that well suited to modern activities. There is also now a Free download of 8 Dukedog activities which extend the rather limited passenger activities that come with the DVD.
Finally, I also have a soft spot for the Steyning Branch community CD.
I wouldn't decry any of the other community CD's, I either haven't got round to trying them or ordering them.
Cheers
Martin
