Did Anyone here go to the SVR deisel gala

Post by Hymek »

I work on the severn valley Railway and i dedcided to spend the day there last week as a visitor. I have never seen so many deisels in one place in my life

we had
37 175, 37 906, 50 035, 50 059, D1013, D1015, D1023, D9009, D9016, 55 019, 108 DMU and 220 025 Severn Voyager.

The first train i boarded had 2!!! class 50s on the front and a deltic on the rear. I have never travelled to fast between bewdley and arley in my life

Also i was lucky enough to compare D9016s cab with the voyager cab
It amazes me how much theyve changed (id rather drive the deltic one, its alot more simple!!)

Anyone else enjoy it??

Ooooh, if you work on the SVR you'll know Gary Thornton of Six Bells Jcn fame then :o

Didn't get there this year myself, but I know a couple of loco's that did 8)

For the uninebriated see here http://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/
The site does railtour & open day reviews, including one of the Barrow Hill weekend

I was able to get over on the Friday and had a hugely enjoyable hour behind 55019 from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster, piloted by one of the 50's from Bewdley. Haven't seen a Deltic in the flesh for years and years and even though it was only using one engine, the sound was fantasic! Even at each end of the journey, the throbbing of the engine 'ticking over' spoke volumes about what a beast of a machine it was!

Didn't have time to wait for the return trip :( so went back behind one of the 37's (both to Bewdley) - a different sound entirely, really 'raw and dirty'. Unfortunately my intended stop at Highley had to go by the wayside as well, but we did meet 9009 and 9016 at various points.

Back in Bridgnorth, I found my way back to the fish and chip shop whose offerings I had so enjoyed on my only previous visit to this part of the world  , then wandered round Castle Walk and into the gardens to a) see if there was any sign of the Time Team dig a few years ago and b) get a good look at the station and sheds from what was an ideal vantage point. Just in time to see a Western-hauled service arrive and then hear 9016 start up and depart with another set of Mk1's (I presume) in tow. Awesome!

So yes, a great day was had.

I went on the saturday to kidderminster to get the first train out which was D1013 very loud crossing the canal i must say, then took 37906 from highly to bewdley was going to change there but the site of 50049 dropping on the front made me stay on for a thundering thrash past foley park and into the tunnel on full throttle. then I had 55019 from kidders to hampton loade 55009 hampton loade kidderminster 220025 kidderminster
arley D1023 arley for the pair bewdley kidders D1023 back to bewdley for 37175 bewdley arly for a storming run between arley and kidderminster with 55019

And all that for £12 im a member £15 for those who werent :D

Bloody hell Mark! That is absolutely gorgeous. Nice one mate. Are you feeling better now or are you tempting us with stuff we might never get?  j/k mate.

I hope you're feeling up to getting into MSTS again. But don't push it and do yourself a mischief. I'm sure we could all wait a while longer if it means seeing more of you around in the long run.
