Merchant Navies

Post by rogermatthews »

Danny Gilbert, DEE 4141 (sorry, I'm not into the sim community enough to know the name!) asks in the readme to his MNs:

"If you have any comments then please send a pm or post on the UKTS Forums"

Well - they are absolutely SUPERB! Thanks very much, they fill something of a gap and it's really great to have Canadian Pacific in Southern livery.

I look forward to more versions

Cheers

Thanks for the nice comments - it's good to know that the models are appreciated - it makes all those hours of building seem worthwhile. :D One more version to do, which has the lower casing in front of the cylinders removed and also comes with a cut-down tender. This one will be in BR Brunswick Green.

Glad to know you're pleased they are appreciated Danny.

Don't forget though that the early MNs were subject to all sorts of experiment - what about the umpteen versions of the early ones while they experimented (bent-out smoke delfectors, horseshoe shaped front brass plate, narrow cab etc) - you've got a lot of work to do to complete the 'set'! (just kidding!)

Thanks again

Very true! You can't do 'em all - and it was never the intention either. I've just used one cab, two tenders and several body styles - hopefully there's something in there to suit anyone looking for an MN.

Quite true, Danny - like I said it was only a joke!

But on a serious note, it occurs to me that Channel Packet in original form would be nice sometime - though I appreciate it's easy for me to say, a lot of work for you!

I'll retire gracefully now

Danny,

Any chance of looking at this for me, I don't have a front or rear plan of the loco just a side view? I can't connect the cab to the firebox. Also do you know the width and height (from rail)of the class after they were rebuilt?

The model is in obj. format at the moment, I prefer modelling that way.

If you would like a copy to play with then keep the one I'll send if you can help with my request.

Cheers

John.

These are absolutely brilliant models Dee! :D

As a matter of interest, I have managed to alaise them to the Bats Merchant Navy Sounds & the Bats Taw Valley Cab, which looks brilliant, compared with the Scotsman.

It is just a matter of changing the scripts in the Eng & Wag Files for Sounds & Cabview and copying the Taw.cvf from the Bats Common Cab & the MN sms from the Bats Common Sound Folders into the loco you want to change. Just create a Cabview & Sound Folder in each loco and copy the pre mentioned files into these. If you havent got the Bats CD or DVD, you can't do it.

I for some reason, couldn't get the Sound to work from the Common Sound/Bullied Sounds and I tried everything to get them to work. I just kept getting the message, failed to find Bullied sms. So ended up running a loco with no sound. That's when I decided to copy the Bats Sound & Cab Views.

As a matter of interest, I have used 3D Trainstuff's Coronation Cab & Sounds in the same way for all the Duchess Class Locos available for download and they look much better for it. Again, you must have the UK Record Holders of Steam CD. All my LNER A1, 2, 3 & 4s use the cab from locos use the Cab & Sounds from the Bats A4 in the same way.

The BATS sounds and cab are great - but there was no way they could have been included in the upload!

Thanks for doing Ellerman Lines Danny :)

I've found out from Ian that TSM can't convert obj's to S, files which is a pity.

I sent you a pm last night and I've got the drawings all ready for you, if you still want them.
