Hello friends,

My pc is getting old,but dont have the cash for a new one.

would putting a new graphics card into it get faster frames or am I limited by the old motherboard?

My mother board is a AsusTek Pegasus CUV-NT and I cant find much info for it online.

I currently have a 128 graphics card, but would the graphics be better with a 256 or 512 card or am I limited with the old motherboard?

Hopefully a bigger card would even make a small difference?

Based on the specifications at http://www.shopping.com/xPF-Intel-Asus- ... T-WOTV-WOV I would say you are going to be limited by both the processor speed and the memory limitations on the motherboard. What operating system do you use ? With a limit of 768MB of system memory Windows XP is going to struggle. Win 98 or 2000 would be better but they are very old technology.

At this stage I would say - save your money and put it towards a new system - you can get budget systems that run quite quickly for several hundred pounds these days. Not earth shattering performance but well capable of running MSTS well.

I think 'AGP 4X' could be quite limiting on choice of graphics card too, you may have to look secondhand.
I still run a 128Mb graphics card, but its memory is DDR3, so in all the card out performs all 256Mb DDR2 graphics cards, and quite a few 512Mb cards.
So AFAIK you will see little or no improvement in MSTS, by just increasing from a 128Mb to a 256Mb DDR2 graphics card.

I concur, upgrading your card is unlikely to bring much, if any, benefit at all. In fact on an old machine i have as a spare its 128mb card worked better than a new 256mb card i bought for it. Bigger cards just sit about idle waiting for data from the system board.

It was either buy a new pc or buy all 12 of the new Murphy Models/Bachmann Irish 141/181 class locos!
And judgeing by price irish models sell on ebay,I decided to go with the models first from the shop!

My pc is a 2001 Pavilion but everything is now practially swaped out,
now XP Pro (was W2k),1GB ram(was 256),500Gb H/D (was 160),but still a pentium 3-950mhz processor!

I was hoping a new graphics card might bump up the FPS a little bit in MSTS until I save again

Sorry to say but the P3 is a dead end.

Better processors need a different socket so your motherboard also needs replacing.

With a better motherboard you will also get provision for Sata hard drives which make a real difference to frame rates and stutter.
You can install your old drive for music and photos and as a backup for MSTS so all is not lost.
Alternatively, use the old computer and link it up in a network.
