MSTS keeps putting my monitor on standby
Any idea people please why sometimes when I start up MSTS, my monitor goes into standby mode for roughly 5 seconds before switching on again? The connection between my monitor and tower is sound so I wonder what this anomaly could be. Thanks.

Dunno but I've been experiencing the same think for a month or so now too.

Hi
When MSTS starts up, I'm pretty sure it flips into a few different screen modes while setting up. One of these may be interpreted as an invalid mode by your monitor and it's kicking itself into standby mode.

Has it always done this or is it a new problem?

Mine does the same
i think its to do with the colour setting for msts being set at 16 bit on my PC, whereas the setting for the PC as a whole is set for 32bit. I think as it loads it switches resolution. As long as it comes back I shouldnt worry too much.

Re: MSTS keeps putting my monitor on standby
Monitors have a habit of dropping to standby when the input signal disappears. Unfortunately MODE SWITCHING is a cause of signal loss, in that the video card switches OFF the output, affects the mode change, then switches the output back ON.
The longer the mode switch takes can and does result in monitor dropout to standby, albeit temporarily. Bear in mind that some of the newer monitors drop to standby very quickly after signal loss.

Re: MSTS keeps putting my monitor on standby
Its only started happening recently and its getting a bit annoying. Basically, if I select any route, regardless of how in-depth the scenery is, the monitor kicks into standby mode and then switches on after 5 seconds. If it was an issue with mode switching, then surely I would've had a problem with the monitor as soon as I had installed MSTS, bearing in mind I have had MSTS on my PC for 2 years.
Thanks anyway.

Re: MSTS keeps putting my monitor on standby
I only asked whether it was recent 'cos it is normal for MSTS to switch a CRT monitor on and off briefly when loading - the same sort of effect when changing the settings in Control Panel>>Display. I've never known it to last 5 seconds though.
Sorry, I'm stumped then. You could try checking all settings or power savings etc, though I'm guessing you've already thought of that.

I did. Thanks for your help though Roger, but I'm stumped too.

Re: MSTS keeps putting my monitor on standby
Just out of interest, do you get the same 5 sec delay if changing default settings in Control Panel? Or when starting Windows (there's usually a delay after that moving horizontal progress bar before it switches the monitor settings, with XP at any rate)
the only other thing which springs to mind, and admittedly it's not very helpful, is if you can borrow an LCD screen; that should not switch to standby in any event
Any reports on the MS website?

Yes. Whenever I switch my computer on everyday for the first time, I get a 5 second delay to begin with and a 5 second delay when changing my resolution/default settings on Contral Panelrogermatthews wrote:Just out of interest, do you get the same 5 sec delay if changing default settings in Control Panel? I will look into that also, thanks Roger.
That was my first port of call before I posted this thread and I didn't notice anyone reporting a similar problem.rogermatthews wrote:Any reports on the MS website?

Re: MSTS keeps putting my monitor on standby
Hi. Hmmm, we're guessing at this stage, but from everything you say it seems to me that it could be i) your monitor ii) your video card iii) anything else including software which might also be your windows installation.
If you could try it with another similar monitor it might help track it down. If that gives the same problem you could try switching your videocard to another socket if available.
I wasn't being facetious when I said 'anything else'; I had a similar problem but in my case the monitor went into standby on startup and never came back! This was intermittent and even a reinstall of windows didn't help - it happened half way through the reinstallation! To this day I don't know what caused it but I cleaned all the video card and socket contacts etc and it seems to be OK. I then gave the PC to my wife and she's happy with it, though curiously it did it last week when I took the side off to install another card. I stopped fiddling and it seem OK again.
I'd try another monitor first, though its only a guess. Sorry I can't be more specific
