MSTS has packed up again - I get the Send/Don't Send message whenever I try and play trains about midway through loading the activity (I forget which stage - it hasn't stopped there before for me...) so I decided, seeing as I've got a long weekend and I've been meaning to free up some space on this computer, I'd go for a complete re-install and sort everything out.
Problem is the Uninstall.exe file for MSTS seems to have been overwritten by one created to uninstall the GWR 2885 Class '3850' I downloaded a while back so I can't unistall MSTS like that and I've tried putting the MSTS CD in and selecting uninstall on there but it freezes at 'Initiazing Uninstall' or, in the case of re-install, gets to 'Removing old or partial install' and then closes itself with no error messages or anything.
Given that, I'm assuming that the disk relies on the uninstall.exe file it placed on the computer which now doesn't exist. Could someone please send me a working Uninstall.exe so I can sort it out unless there's an easier way to fix it. Email address is guilty_til_proven_innocent[at]hotmail.com (with @ instead of [at]).
Thanks in advance,

Just delete your whole Train Simulator folder and registry entries.

Hi, If you are going to remove MSTS completely, run the disc and make a cup of tea because it takes sometime ,it looks like it is not working but it is

Tried that - set it off and watched a football match. Hadn't done anything by the end of that and, whilst I did only set it off at half time, 45 mins is still a fair amount of time.ronald parkin wrote:Hi, If you are going to remove MSTS completely, run the disc and make a cup of tea because it takes sometime ,it looks like it is not working but it is![]()

How likely would I be to majorly screw up the computer fiddling with the registry files? I did consider looking for them but decided it would probably be a bad idea - I wouldn't know what I was doing really.desiro5 wrote:Just delete your whole Train Simulator folder and registry entries.

Re: MSTS Uninstaller
Hi
You should be safe just deleting the directories and files. When you reinstall, the installer will just overwrite the existing registry settings for you.
Perhaps consider defragmenting the drive after you get MSTS deleted and once more after you reinstall MSTS.

Re: MSTS Uninstaller
Not a good idea if you have downloaded hundreds of add-on routes and rolling stock though?desiro5 wrote:Just delete your whole Train Simulator folder and registry entries.
There should never be any reason to re-install MSTS unless you have a hard-drive failure. Most errors are caused by faulty downloads etc. so if you just copy the latest downloaded routes, rolling stock or consists to a backup folder (you can see from the dates which are the newest folders). Testing MSTS after each one is copied, you will eventually come to a point where it works again and you will know where the error occurred.
I also suggest you download Route_Riter and run the Check Route and Check all Activities modules, this will probably point out where your errors are.

Re: MSTS Uninstaller
Hi
As Mike said it shouldn't be necessary to delete Trainsim.
However if you really want to.
Re-name the folder to something else and then re-install.
You can then drag stock and routes from your re-named folder, testing as you go.
Don't forget you'll need to re-add all the track addons such as Xtracks etc.
Even if you used the original uninstaller it would only remove the default items, which probably are not causing the problem.
Cheers

I agree mike, but I made that post in the context that in the first post he had made the descision to completley redo his msts. Reinstalling is always a last resort.mikesimpson wrote:Not a good idea if you have downloaded hundreds of add-on routes and rolling stock though?desiro5 wrote:Just delete your whole Train Simulator folder and registry entries.

Re: MSTS Uninstaller
In theory you shouldn't have to re-install MSTS, no, but I've decided it's probably a good idea. I'm running out of space on the hard drive on this computer and it's slowing everything down. Obviously routes can be deleted easily enough, and I've mostly sorted them out but I have vast expanses of stock, most of which I don't really use anymore. If I delete one of them, it'll bring up errors with any consists that exist including that stock item, any activities that might include it within the player's stock, as static consists or AI consists and, if I were to clear a substancial amount of stock, it would take hours to track down and fix all the causes of all the error messages I'll get.
