Removing a Route

Post by welshdragon »

Good morning All,

Is there any reason why a Route and it's accociated Trainset, Consists etc can't be removed when using Trainstore after storing all other Routes then for example cutting and pasting all the files including any that might have remained in Trainstore for the Route you want to remove.

If that makes any sense.

I don't fully understand what you mean.
do you want to un-install the complete route from MSTS or just from Train Store.

If it is just from Train Store when you have other routes in it, I doubt if you can
remove just one, the only option I have seen in it is to unstore everything.

As Trainstore will store all the Routes bar one, e.g. BrisCard Route. The locos, wagons etc in the Trainset Folder in relation to that route will have all their .eng & .wag files in their folders if they were installed with that route and not used elsewhere. The same applies to the Consists.

Therefore if the Route was deleted or cut and pasted to a temp folder from the Root of MSTS, Routes Folder, would it be possible to remove the above mentioned in paragraph 1 without it affecting anything.

Alan, in principle, yes (if I understand you correctly) but it seems a long way round. There are several potential pitfalls I can see:

1. If the route etc is the only one unstored, you can delete the consists, but you will still have to identify all the rolling stock in their trainset folders manually before removing/deleting them. All other stock will still have stuff in their folders

2. there could be unused items/consists (eg AI locos provided by the builder for later use) which would not be unstored

3. it's possible that other routes or activites use stock supplied with the route you want to delete

You might do better to unstore all the other routes which will just leave the files of the route you want to remove in the storage area, though note 2 above. The actual route itself can, of course, just be unstored and deleted

I hope I've read you correctly

Removing rolling stock and consists can leave you in a minefield of MSTS errors - one item of stock can be used in many consists, which in turn may be used in many routes. Unless you know exactly where each item is used, which gets increasingly difficult the more you install, it is best to leave them where they are. If you are running short of disk space, hard drives are pretty cheap these days.

Thanks for all the advice, I just thought it would be an easy way to remove a route where you know that the stock and consists are only used on that route.

Drive space is no problem.
