I have just had Route_Riter (latest version) scan my routes.
I got the following errors in quite a few routes.
I do not know what they are or mean. Anyone any ideas.
Are they "worth worrying" about.
I have back up images that I can restore if I should not have allowed the Soundsource changes.
---------------------------------------------
No reference file has been provided with this route. A default .ref file will be prepared if you run the 'Compact Route' option. Or use the 'Make .ref File' option. You may then open this route in the RE but many shapes will list as 'Misc'.
I have not done this.
-------------------
If Soundsource errors are found, do you wish Route_Riter to patch them so that they appear on the current tile.
If you reply NO, then you can use TsUtils to correct the Soundsource correctly, where possible.
I did allow it to do this.
-----------------------
An error 9 occurred in subroutine 'ReadWorld' in C:\Program Files\Route_riter\TempFiles\w-000345+013887.w
Error description = Subscript out of range.
with this one the file numbers were always different.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
thanks in advance.

Re: Route Riter error messages
Ian - since nobody else has replied - I don't consider myself a qualified expert but this may help:
1. A ref file is only needed if you want to open up the route in Activity Editor. Apart from my own route building, the only time I really want to do this is to change the description (the info which appears on screen), eg from a foreign language into English. Many commercail routes don't have a ref file, presumably a vain attempt to stop people copyuing it, that's all. If you don't want to use AE don't bother, but there is no harm if you let it create one.
2. I'm not too sure about soundsource files, but whenever I get this message I let RR create them (it's something to do with RR only looking at tiles which have them). I've never had any problem with letting RR create them, but then again if the route works without them ...
3. I've had this message and generally close RR down (or it does it itself!) I can't recall exactly what I've been doing right now, but I've usually not bothered trying to do whatever it was and put it down to experience - I've never been bothered enough to find out. Some things give this message and I live with it! Reopening RR and doing something else usually works.
Cheers
Roger

Re: Route Riter error messages
Hi
Slight correction - the Ref file is required by the Route Editor, I think - not AE.
Mike Simpson found that misplaced soundsources often cause MSTS to crash, which is why he developed this function - always say Yes!
The third message is because Routeriter itself has errored - if you can reproduce it, report it to Mike via the email link given, and hope that RS hasn't taken over all his time.

Re: Route Riter error messages
I seem to remember geting certain error messages when there was rolling stock or other items included which used foreign letters not immediately available in my Windows OS RR could not read the words involved because Windows spelled them as asterisks, squares and the like. See "Foreign Downloads" in the General Discussion forum

Re: Route Riter error messages
thanks Alan & Tony, much appreciated.
I did let Route_Riter change all the SoundSource files.
I'll forward the other one to Mike.

Re: Route Riter error messages
Thats right, AE doesn't need the ref. file.alanch wrote:Slight correction - the Ref file is required by the Route Editor, I think - not AE.
Some commercial companies, such as BATS, would take the ref. file out of the route before they released it. Without the ref. file, Route Editor wouldn't know what objects went under what categories (like tree would be in the vegetation list). The reason the file was removed was to stop people 'tinkering' with the route, and then contacting the makers when the went and messed it all up asking for help.
Route-Riter can write a new ref file for you, but thats for a separate discussion.
Robert

Re: Route Riter error messages
Just to clarify on the Soundsource files. These are the sounds a train makes when crossing for instance a metal bridge.
It was discovered some time ago that if you were currently working on tile A and placed the soundsource over the border on Tile B using the mouse. Then MSTS gave an invalid position for the sound on tile A rather than calculating where it should be on B.
Allowing Route_Riter to correct this gives a valid position on Tile A but it does move the sound from where it was meant to be.
The option in TSUtils to fix this actually does calculate the correct position for the sound and place it correctly on Tile B.
