Files not installing in MSTS 1

Hi folks,
I have a problem that has me beat.

I have the Xplosiv release of MSTS.
I got the following in each of 5 installations of MSTS, in each install I tried what I hoped would give a cure, but no, I can't solve it.
I'm hoping I might get a little help in this fine forum.
I have 18 full price add-ons, they all work OK provided I install them in the order of release.

OK. I'm getting error popups from a few add-ons.
e.g., in the Just Trains new release 1.01 of TGV Train Sim Pack,

I get these :-
No extended Shape Data For US2BSignal3.s

If I click continue I get :-
Failed to open Shape File
Route\Jttgftp\Shapes\US2BSignal3.s

Again if I click continue I get :-
Shape Failed to Load. US2BSignal3.s

That file is definitely not in that location, nor is it in MSTS anywhere as I did a search..
--------------
I have a few UKTrain Sims CD with much the same errors.
Toddington gives World Initialisation failed and such like. However, 1 activity works.
Cannoch Chase V5
North West England V2.1
Dorset Coast V3
Ruabon LLangellen Barmouth

Today I looked in this forum for any possible pointers to my problem, nothing except I
found Route Riter, so I download the full & Updates versions, the ExtraFiles & Help.
I installed it, looking at it I decided Check Route looked a good candidate so I ran it
and got the log below, this is just for TGV.

I use an Icy Box Hard Drive Caddy that was just released before Xmas past.
There is no drive "caddy" as such, the drive slides in then I close the door & it's lock secures it.
then I simply change from Vista to XP by a swap of drives. It is guaranteed for 10,000 swaps. It is SATA.
I also have a second hard drive that is non-removable that I use for various things.

I have XP with SP1installed and nothing except essentials, such as my trusty O&O Defragmenter, no 'net.
I have MSTS (and only MSTS) installed in my E: partition.
My CD/DVD Rom drive is a Plextor PL-130A
P4 Prescott 3.4 gb CPU
2mb Corsair Ram.
ASUS P5AD2_E Premium motherboard.
I tried a Radeon X800 and a Radeon 1950 Graphics Card.
I tried a Creative Audigy 2 live & a new ASUS Xolar Soundcard.
Targan 650 watts PSU.
Plextor PL-755SA writer.

I have the Rail Drivers Cab Controller.
It seems to me that files are not being installed, what could cause that, it has me beat.

Any help VERY gratefully accepted. And many thanks in advance.

Hi
The only thing I could suggest is looking on the Just Trains site to see if these faults have been fixed by a patch.
Route Riter has obviously done its job, and if you ran it again you will find most of the errors have gone.
Failing that and your confident in files/explorer, you can copy and rename the invisible wagon shapes to your missing files.
Obviously when you run the route you will not then see the missing objects, but you will no longer get errors.
(I do this on foreign downloaded routes, where it can be difficult to obtain patches)
On the Toddington Route, you may need to select textured skies in the MSTS options.
Cheers
Jon

thanks Jon,
No, there are no patches.
I think it's my system, but what.

I have a new Sony/Nec CD/DVD rom I was keeping for a spare, but I put it into an External CD/DVD USB drive case. The drive may install the programs at a slower speed thus giving the files a little more time to get into the Sim, I know it may very well not help, but there is only one way to find out, and I'm running out of ideas.
And it is a new drive, and the old Plextor is noisy.

I have just restored a True Image image of my OS & installed MSTS.
I'm off to install one of the routes.

I tried installing Toddington but only 2 activities work. I copied the MSTS folder to another partition and deleted all the files keeping just the folders. I then renamed the installed MSTS to original, copied over the MSTS folders. I installed toddington into it with success, however, when I checked the files I think there are some missing. how, why I don't know.

I'm now wondering if it might be the CD's, my 18 other add-ons install no problem. considering the CD's would be written at high speed that really does come into the equation.

There are way too many files to modify, so I'll just have to set the duff CD's aside, I do miss the Toddington route, many times I have stayed in the area and had a ride on the trains there.

That's life I suppose.

Hi
I just had a look and there appears to be loads of fixes and updates for the TGV route.

http://www.justtrains.net/faqs.asp?drdP ... rain%20Sim

Its probably a good idea to run Route Riter over the Toddington route, see what it can fix.

Cheers
Jon

OK Jon, SUCCESS
I got all but 2 of my UKTrainSim CD's to install and run.
first, I should have explained more about TGV, I had been in touch with them, he advised the 5a patch that didn't work.

Anyway, I installed MSTS, defragmented it. After a good think about things I thought of saving the Disks to a partition I use for downloaded files or whatever into a folder for my Simulators.

I did just with that all 8, including TGV. I installed Toddington from the HDrive, defragged it, then copied the install from the CD, my thinking was that if any files were not installed from one of the sources the other may well copy them over.
BTW, I also had Java installed for the Route Riter.
Which of those did the trick I'm not sure, but I suspect "installing" the routes twice may be the cure.
Only 2 failed to work, Dorset Coast V3 and Yorkshire Coast railway.

When I selected an activity of Dorset I got an error that the train.exe had "crashed", it did not state that, but that's what it meant, and from previous experience that means a fresh install of the routes.
I'm not worried as I now know what to do. All I have to do is restore my MSTS & C images.

That just might be worth bearing in mind to anyone who gets the same problem.

All the best to you Jon.
