Spottercam duration too short.

Post by dilflat »

I have been playing about with the camera views and would love to know if it would be possible to increase the duration of view 4 so that you can see a train approaching from further away and watch it go into the distance. I cannot be the only person who finds the constant position jumping when running faster trains somewhat annoying.

Perhaps if no known "fix" for this exists then one of the software development types out there may be interested in taking this on as a challenge.

I have had this camera "jam" on a couple of occasions, tracking a train from one position long after it has gone out of view which suggests that there must be some way to alter this.

My attempts at changeing values in the camera folder has yet to produce the desired result. I shall go away and try a few more things.

All the best
Dave.

It's possible in Cam Hack somewhere in the downloads section

"Ctrl\Shift\9" can freeze view 4 at a particular point, instead of panning,as the train goes by.Right click mouse with this option, shifts camera angles too

yeah but the train will still flash passed. He wants to set the camera like further away so u can see the train coming for maybe a mile or something.

I thought the Ctrl+Shift+9 aswell but that doesnt give the result he is after.

I knew about ctrl-shift-9 but that does not solve the problem.
What i would like to see is a recreation of standing by the line and seeing and hearing the train approach from a reasonable distance and pass at high speed without the viewpoint changing every few seconds. For me it makes view 4 unuseable much above 60/70 mph.

The ideal would base the duration and distance from which the view starts to be based on the speed of the train, meaning that you can watch slow starts as at present, as well as getting a decent affect at speed.

There are some talented software developers about and I feel it may be an interesting challenge for anyone looking for their next project.
Regards,
Dave.

I've found the view 4 problem to be very annoying too. What I've been doing recently (based on a comment from Stuart Williamson, that man of many brilliant ideas) is to set up activities with plenty traffic but with no intention of actually driving the train. I set up the player path on a siding on the outside of a good curve, and never actually drive the train, just sit there and watch the trains go by.

It's especially good to use a traffic pattern provided in a downloaded activity (ie. one you do not make yourself) so you do not know when or what the next train will be...

This is the 3rd version of the camview file that I have obtained and all three have good points and bad points. Anyone know if it would be possible to edit the file into taking the best elements of all three and making one really good one?

Change the FOV in the camcfg file for spotter cam to 70 or 75 .Gives you a more distanced view,so you see the train coming from further away and it usually lingers on it longer after its passed by.
