The new MidEast plus.

Post by ThomasTelford »

Hi everyone. :D

Just wanted to ask a quick question about the forthcoming MidEst Plus disc.I've just been reading about all the new track layouts and huge track extensions that we are hopefully soon going to be able to explore for hours and hours but as i was reading about the new lines from Sleaford to Boston and March to Sleaford etc there was one relativly small section of route in this area that i did'nt see mentioned anywhere and that is the sadly no longer used freight branch from March up to Wisbech where the Spillers and MetalBox factorys were/are is this branch going to be in there too?
The main reason i ask is that i have very fond memory's of standing on Nuneaton station (at around 20:30) watching the class 56 hauled spillers train come in from the Leicester line and head off up the west coast mainline on it's way up to Scotland, this train i believe in it's last few months was transfered from the west coast mainline to the east coast mainline and this would i believe give a wonderfull opportunity for an activity on both the EastMids plus and the Thames Mersey routes.

Many thanks Thomas Telford. :D

PS.Let me take this chance to give a big thank you to the kind people out there that let people such as myself download there Loco's,wagons and stuff. :drinking:

At the moment the March to Wisbech branch isnt included. Whether it will be in the first release im not sure, Mick Clarke the route author may well comment. It may well be added in subsequent releases. :)

Hello Thomas :)

Good news. I was mistaken :(

The line from March to Wisbech is laid, although at the moment thats the limit of work to that section. The scenery, stations etc are still to be added but may well be done by the time the route is released :)

So you will be able to run your favourite services :)

Does that include the March to Spalding line as well, as I can't remember if the original Mid East or this one had it?

Will we be able to see a map of the routes covered before it gets released?

Hi Lad491. :D

Thanks very much for leting me know about the frieght branch from March up to Wisbech,i was very much looking forward to this coming out now even more so!
Thought i'd let you know i crossed over the abandoned trackbed a couple of times when i was out making deliveries over that way around Christmas time,it's not looking too good for the old line already! :( It looks like Mother nature is taking it back at a fast rate with smallish trees growing between the sleepers and high grasses making it hard to see for more than a short way along the lines.Still never say never it might get a new lease of life yet just like the old Birch Coppice colliery line did not far from where i live in North Warwickshire.Birch Coppice closed way back in March 1987 then after 11 or so years it came back to life as a railhead now recieving a train of auto parts for Volkwagan/Audi and around three container trains a day. :fadein:

Best wishes Thomas Telford.

Hi Thomas,

Glad your interested in the Wisbech Branch. Could you tell me what freight ran up that line. Were there ever any passenger services?

My very tattered timetable of 1961 shows 9 or 10 trains each way between Wisbeach and March, with 2 or 3 running through to King's Lynn on weekdays. the Sunday service was around 7 trains I have not checked to see whether all trains ran every day, Interestingly all but 2 or 3 trains are headed 'D' .for Diesel.
This timetable is very fragile, the paper tends to disintegrate.

Well we are interpreting the timeframe a little loosely, from 60's through to the 80's.
There's always excursions too - im doing a few of those as an excuse to get some steam into the route :)
