This one is obviously going to run and run.

Some unambiguous comment from UKTS on an official basis as to their position would be welcome :-?

Well I completely agree with Geoff and Mickrik - If its uploaded its there for keeps - there no point otherwise - let people just enjoy it if they want, either download it or not as they see fit its there to enjoy. I could'nt give a stuff what anyone does with any of my uploads its there to be used and improved if necessary. I'm sorry I understand what people are saying about their files but I agree with Geoff if you don't want the files used don't upload them. It a bit like a kid with "this is my toy your not having it anymore" its like watching my 3 and 4 year old Grandsons when they decide to behave badly.
Childish! Pathetic! some people need to grow up.

Matt has stated many times that the author's wishes are paramount. Therefore the files will be withdrawn and any community CDs/DVDs using them will cease to be available until such time as replacements can be sourced / created.

If the CD authors decide it is too much effort then the CD will not reappear on the site.

That is the official position.

The knock on effect from the official position in my previous post is that previously uploaded activities requiring the files will then not work and people creating new activities using stock from old UKTS CDs will run into problems when new, inexperienced members can't make the activities run thus leading to more questions on the forums and more tickets on the support system.

Matt has stated that when UKTS2 comes around there will be tighter integration of the file library so when files are withdrawn activities etc. that require them will be flagged for attention of the activity author so changes can be made.

Hi Geoff

This opinion is not a legal opinion and is expressed `Without Prejudice`

Copyright infringement is a serious matter, any material included in CD distribution without the written permission of the author, is an infringement.
If a distributor has an agreement to distribute complimentary disks to any or all those who make a contribution to a distributable CD and that agreement is not honoured, the contributors have a right to be aggreived. Even if this is not a written agreement but a proven common practice the contributors have a right to claim.
The way ahead is to observe the common courtesy of seeking written permission before inclusion on any CD.
In the case of complimentary CD`s, establish a distribution list and forward them to the contributors.
An apology to the aggreived is a remarkable way to re-establish good faith and trust.

Kindest regards
Ray

For goodness sake its his work and he has every right to keep it hosted or withdraw it at any time, if it bothers you all so much create some new ones usings TC's new model and stop debating what ifs etc, as by the time this debate has ended some new textures could have been created.

Surely now is the time to say thank you to breedlings for creating the textures and uploading them and letting the community have 5 years of enjoyment out of them, and now pull together asa community and create some new ones :)

Well said Steve! Alex has made his decision....deal with it! it's not as if there isn't any other MK2 potential on the horizon.

The point you both seem to miss is that as far as MEP is concerned we are "dealing with it". Many people have "dealt with" these reactions in the past and will continue to do so.

It would be a great help to those actually contributing to the libraries and communities who don't feel so attached to their RIGHTS to know where they stand before they start a project. MEP as you know has been in development for three years now. It's not unique. It just happens to be currently in development. It's a lot of time and effort. Nobody has to get involved in creating anything but when they do give up their time and effort they don't do so with the expectation of any reward other than self satisfaction. If they pick up appreciation that's a bonus.

These threatened actions which I still hope will be reversed, and I for one will think a lot more of the person in question if they do change their mind, will have an unwarrented negative effect on the time and efforts, already given, of others? Do none of you care about anyone else anymore? you all seem locked in on the RIGHTS of the file author but have scant or no regard for authors who've given as much time to furthering the use of his creations, if indeed they have not given considerably more. I was bought up to respect other people. Is that old hat? If I'm such a dinosaur then be assured there are a few of us still out here.

What needs "Dealing" with is the terms and conditions on which files are allowed into the library. If good manners don't work then a binding agreement is needed. No offence to the moderators or UKTS but this affects everyone involved. It's not just a question of "official positions" because if enough people are put in a position of having to say "well I'm not doing that AGAIN" there'll be no "official position" to take. UKTS is a brilliant host. I'm not attacking UKTS but it is just that. It's a host for the efforts of others and the interests of ALL who contribute must be given greater protection against timewasting.

Ron - that really is not very helpful. Once we start getting into the realms of the legal eagles then this ceases to become a hobby.

Apart from that - Matt has always insisted that the author's wishes are paramount. It does not matter if they have been registered with some copyright service that is there to make money out of people registering items. If Alex wants to remove his items then that is his right as the creator. If Alex wants to stop the distribution of his items via community CDs then that is his right.

Is it painful to UKTS - yes to an extent. It will cause short term loss of CD availability and longer term support issues since different versions of the CDs will be in circulation. We already have that from the previous withdrawals and we are living with it.
