Hello. I have been tring to fix my MSTS installation as it hasnt worked. I have been told that I changed the reslution and color to high. So when I try to load MSTS it will do the main loading screen and then black out. Ive tried reinstalling it but is saved in the system regitary and i cant get rid of it. Is there anyway other than going to the display options without going onto the game.

Hi Pete - if I understand your problem correctly, you can can change your overall display with start>control panel>display>settings then adjust (assuming you're running windows). This will affect all your graphics and screen resolution though. It may or may not get trainsim loading, depends on your system.

You should be able to reinstall trainsim but you'll have to uninstall it first

YOu could also try using the Trainsim troubleshooter which should have been installed

Good luck!

Roger

Pete

You're going to have to let us know a bit of the background of the problems you're experiencing, as re-installing MSTS is usually the last resort....and not the first. As you've already found out, a reinstall won't get rid of the majority of things that cause MSTS not to run.

What add-ons have you got?
Do you use TrainStore?
When was MSTS last running OK?
And what's the last things you've done to your installation?

Well. I havent got anything installed. I have recently been having problems with my graphics card driver (Which seems to be sorted now). It is now just getting to the main menu screen and when I click on somthing it freezes.

Pete - I think what Doug was getting at is what has changed to your system since TrainSim last ran properly? It sounds like the video card drivers have been reinstalled or something similar.

Have you installed any new items of stock, or routes or anything since it last ran correctly? There is a limit with TrainSim

Also - assuming it may be something to do with your video card & drivers - have you run the TrainSim troubleshooter? It might be that switching to an older driver will improve things

But, as Doug says, you'll need to provide a few more details, eg what video card have you got, have you added anything to the system recently, what OS are you using etc.

Hey guys. Just to let you know I have sorted the problem out (or so it seems anyway). Without going into to much depth it was a problem with the graphics card driver. So anyway thanks for all your help.

Cheers

Hi Pete,

how did you resolve this in the end? I have been running MSTS no problem with Central Scotland, Highland Mainline and Cambrian Coast the only additional routes installed. Installed London - Brighton and now MSTS wont start, just gets to the loading screen and crashes at 5 bars on the progress bar.

So far i have installed the update from microsoft, used updated driver for graphics card and fiddled about with resolutions without success

Hello scottm,

Are you using Train Store?

You say that you have recently loaded London - Brighton (which is a large Route) and this might have pushed MSTS to a size that is now be beyond your P/C's resources without using Train Store.

Installed London - Brighton and now MSTS wont start
Thats because LBE is a very old program now and replaces your current tsection.dat file with a very much older version, which will stop msts loading. Download the most recent copy of the tsection.dat file from the front page, save a copy of it, and then instal it into your global folder and im sure that will fix the problem.

Whenever you install anything new to msts, its always a good practice to copy over the tsection.dat file again as most installers will overwrite the latest with older versions.

thanks guys, the tsection.dat file seems the most likely problem i think. Resources wise the PC should be fine, using about a 1/4 of my 500gb HD space and a gig of ram to keep things moving.

i will try it tonight when i get in from work.
