CRT - TFT upgrade

Post by ABABAB »

Can anyone give me some advice? I have a LG 19" CRT monitor, running MSTS 1600 x 1200 (manufactured in 2000) didn't realise it was that old, I got it from a friend. However, it has been good.
I want to get a TFT monitor but the 19" ones seem to run at 1440 x 900, can anyone tell me, as this is a lower resolution, will the graphics be worse or about the same, if I am paying around £170.00, what I would really like is a 22" 4.3 monitor, which runs at 1600 x 1200, but they seem hard to find and are above my budget.
Can anyone give me advice please on what to buy, even if it is a widescreen monitor.

Cheers

Hi
Unfortunately MSTS doesn't support widescreen.
I changed to a 19" TFT last year, but was able to pay a little more for a non widescreen.
Currently run as 1280x1024.
Initially I had to get used to the brightness, and still have to have a light on in the room unless driving at night.
Cheers
Jon

As a PS........just had to buy a new TV.........got a widescreen because it was very, very cheap........unfortunately 90% of programmes are still broadcast in standard 4:3..........what a joke this country is.

Get Rail Simulator which supports widescreen resolutions ;). A bit of work with a 'HEX Editor' is required for 1440x900 to work though which is a bit of a pain. And regarding Jon's post about widescreen on TV, I can't remember watching a programme that wasn't in widescreen format!

You obviously don't watch many different channels from the main original 4........unless its an NTL thing ?
I can receive about 120 channels and over 100 of those are broadcast in 4:3, I can stretch the picture... but I don't like the distortion.
I wouldn't recommend KRS as an alternative to MSTS,its complete rubbish.
Better to spend the £20 on a non widescreen panel...

You dont have to run TFT monitors at high resolutions. I have a Dell 19" standard screen (ie not widescreen) TFT monitor which I bought for exhibitions. I run it at 1024 x 768 like my normal PC' CRT screen and its fine.

Hi
All TFT screens have a native resolution, usually tells you in the manual.
If you run anything outside it, there is a loss of clarity.
