need help with adding sounds

i am trying to add extra sound sources into the R.E and am able to write the sms. files needed, however the wav. sound in R.E always plays in a slower deeper tone and sounds somewhat distorted yet plays fine in a music player, is this to do with the sms. file or somthing else? any help appreciated
