Revamped Acela

Post by markw »

For those who haven't been over to Jerry Springer for Trainsimmers. com recently - sorry, I know, the words pots and kettles spring to mind, Trainsim.com, they have a wonderful new replacement for the default Acela on there. The end cars are the proper shape (more curves similar to TGV Duplex) and the passenger cars are to tilt profile. All printing is pin sharp and the colours and reflections excellent. And, especially for our younger viewers, the cars have opening doors (all together now, ooooooooh!).

Seriously though it is an extremely realistic rendition and looked the hound's happy sacks belting along the LGV Med, well worth replacing the default cartoon.

Is it a seperate Acela installation or does it really replace the default? I'm getting it whatever, but it would be nice if it overwrote the default offering.

1) Yes it replaces the original default

2) Still uses the default cab which - erm - yes, is the Acela. But no, it hasn't got a photoreal cab or anything like that.

But, don't forget.....it has opening doors.

Mmm, sorry spoilt the punchline!

The constant reference to opening doors is me being just a tad sarky given the constant whining that goes on about "why doesn't this unit have opening doors?". In reality the revised textures, shape, revised interior view and a bloody good go at getting proper bronze tinting in the windows really shove this model into a new league. It is astonishingly real.

Apart from the cabview...

I don't care if the doors open and close or not! After all, nobody ever uses the bloody things do they!

What about the cabview though, I bet it uses the default Dash9 like most others... ;) ;)

And just in case you missed it...

Let's get Changing Rooms in to makeover the Acela cab to the Golsdorf style. Reopen the fireplace and get a real fire going. Use curtain poles for pipes. Put an MDF false boiler on the front. And no I don't mean stick Carol Smiley to the nose, either...

if we can also run down pretty much every other pointless celebrity.

Tara Palmer Tompkinson, for example. what is she for? decorating the acela, of course.

i have just though of a problem, though. the acela is quite pretty, and adding the likes of carol smilie would detract from the nice curvy front. now, if we were to put her on the front of a 458... no, that would make it uglier too. hmm....

I am just waiting for "POLL: Which celebrity do you want to tie to the Acela" to appear. :D Seriously though there must be something particularly satisfying about producing a far superior version of a default train. I shall attempt to get into tr*****m.com and give this a try.
Dave.

Oh yes and my celebrity choice would be Ant and Dec 'coz whenever you turn on the telly and it's some terrible cheap programme, THEY are hosting it.

I went to 'the other place' and had a look. There are 2 new Acelas and a bunch of new Acela Express carriages there. OK, I have broadband so I got the lot... eventually (Nels has plugged the GetRight multi-node loophole that I used, fair enough).

Which one has the opening doors though?
