Can't stop the trains!!!
Since reinstalling Windows XP, MSTS and Bin, the @/' key no longer acts as a brake.
Furthermore, the back tab key dosn't act as the emergency brake anymore. I've tried several routes.
Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong/missed?
Thanks,
Alan.

It could be your Windows settings - check Control Panel to ensure that the keyboard is set to "UK", as it sometimes defaults to American layout.

For some reason my ' button has stopped working on MSTS, so i cannot brake with this key, when trying to reset the button it's as if the button on my keyboard isnt working when infact it is, i just checked what my keyboard is set as and it has both UK and US, but UK is in bold?
This button seems to have just randomly stopped working as it was working fine earlier.
This is what mine is set too:

Any ideas?
Cheers.
Edit: I did update my xp media software this evening so could this perhaps be the problem, if so is there any way of fixing it so the key works?
Another Edit: Have fixed the problem, unplugged my remote sensor device and it cured it.

Can't stop the trains.
Unfortunately, the advice given only helps for 50% of the problem.
I can now use the 'Back Space' button for Emergency Stop, but still can't use the ' key to brake the trains.
Is it because I'm using the 'Bin' facility, perhaps?
Or is there another mysterious reason?
Thanks again,
Alan.

Can't stop the train!
The answer was staring me in the face. Bin (I assume it's Bin), turns the driving process into a two button affair. 'A' to brake and'D' to accelerate.
It sems to eliminate the need for the ' key.
Can someone else try this to prove me right or wrong?
Thans, Alan.

If the power unit you are driving has a combined power and brake control then the ' key will have no effect - D decreases the brake and increases the throttle, and A decreases the throttle and increases the brake. I suspect that is what you have.
Check the readme for whatever you are driving.

Hope this is of some help.

Re: Can't stop the train!
The bin patch doesn't alter the effects of the "A" and "D" keys - these have always controlled accelleration and deceleration in most locos (as distinct from braking). I think Alan is right - I think the loco you're driving may have a combined power/brake controller (like Voyager DEMU's do), hence the usual ; and ' ckeys don't work the way you expect them to..brooke1 wrote:The answer was staring me in the face. The bolding means that's the one in use. If I was you, I would remove the US one from the list.kieranhardy wrote:For some reason my ' button has stopped working on MSTS, so i cannot brake with this key, when trying to reset the button it's as if the button on my keyboard isnt working when infact it is, i just checked what my keyboard is set as and it has both UK and US, but UK is in bold?

As for your ' key, try using it in other applications. If it doesn't work, but the rest of the keyboard does, try popping it off and giving it a clean.
