Changing the AI consist in a Pre-Made activity

Post by LFBWoodford »

Hi guys

First of all id just like too say thanks for all the help you have all given me so far, im starting too catch on, but hey, if you guys know, its good too ask. So thanks.

As the title says, its basically that. For instance im using the Great Eastern route alot lately. And i found out how too change my consist (eg. editor and tools). So here i am, crusing through Essex in a Anglia 86 with Anglia Mk2's, and a old Blue slam door EMU passes me or a intercity 86 with blue Mk 2's, anyway.......you get my drift i hope. So is there anyway of changing the consist, not the activitie, not wherew they pass me, or how they behave, just change the train.

Many Thanks Guys

Pete

Hi,

In your activity editor, open the activity you wish to edit.

Under Traffic Pattern, click on Edit. Then the Traffic Pattern dialog box will appear, select a service in which consist you wish to change end click on Edit.

On the Service Editor Screen which will appear, you can choose which consist you want to appear instead.

There are quicker and easier ways, I change them within the text files, and there are some other progammes out there - but you could try the activity editor for now.

Hi Pete

One thing to bear in mind - one potential outcome of changing AI consists is that doing so might cause the activity to behave differently or possibly fail. For example, if you were to swap a Class 20 diesel for a Class 50, the running characteristics would be totally different, so the service hauled by the loco would behave differently - possibly not acting as the activity author intended. Ijn practice, as long as your loco changes are "like for like" (similar performance, etc), you shouldn't get too many problems.

Be careful when swopping AI consists, as unless the running times of the swopped consists are the same or very similar it could lead to problems when running the Activity, as the replaced AI trains may not be where they should be at the right times (if you see what I mean).

This may lead to stand offs or similar occuring. It takes a long time for the Activity writers to ensure that conflicts do not happen before they release an activity.

But don't let me put you off, give it a try, but I suggest you make a copy of the original activity and put it somewhere safe and if problems do occur you can always go back to square one.

Good luck.

Addendum: You just beat me to it Ashley

Bob.
