Go to http://www.izarc.org/ and get yourselves a great freeware Zip program that does a great job. It covers 100's of file types..it is safe (been using it for over a year..) and is available in lots of languages.
I like it a lot... well worth a try.. :D

Fair enough, I can't say I ever noticed the nag, my apologies, I just classed it as free because it came from legit sources and cost nowt.

For me though, winrar is better than winzip. It's nag window if you don't pay is less naggy (although there are versions that stop working after a certain time), but most important are the differences in how it handles multipart archives and files or archives within archives.

An example....you have a zip containing setup.exe and some other files it needs. With winzip, the last time I had anything to do with it, if you double clicked on the exe inside the zip, it failed because it's support files were not there.....meaning you had to unzip it all first. Winrar on the other hand, will get hold of the other files from the archive and allow setup to finish running. It handles archives in archives the same way....great for opening .tar.gz files.
KDE archive manager is best of all, GUI wise, when it's not exploding. And that's as free as they come.

They state it's a security issue, changed the version number and expect you to pay full price again for the 'patch'ed version.

The same scam with QT Pro. "Oh we have a security patch, your previous version requires upgrading and another payment of 29 bucks, thank you."

Nice money spinner.

Version 11.1 is a free update to V11 users. If you haven't got V11, they recommend that you ensure you have the latest V10 release.

If you are using an older version of Winzip, you do not have to pay full price to upgrade - it's 1/2 price $14.95 for the std edition.

well well well, how many of you have read whats new in winzip 11,?
not many from the sounds of it.
have a look, winzip now deals with rar files and unzips them perfectly, you just choose where you want to unzip them too.easy.
go to c/nets download page and read the reviews.
this is the best utility around it is the king of compression and if you have been a registered member of the winzip clan you would have got special upgrade rates for being a loyal customer,I did and paid only a tenner for my version from 9 to 11
never had any problems with it either.its great easy and worth every penny(or dollar ).

I reckon the security issue with WinZip 11 is that with WZ10 you can uninstall and reinstall a demo and it doesn't notice!

I have to differ there - I've found winzip to be much more user friendly than winrar in my experience.

I guess it's a case of individual preferences - the database that I deal with at work on a daily basis is hated by pretty much everyone in the office, but when we were training a new colleague from another office with a different system in place, they absolutely loved it as it was more "user friendly" whereas we believe it is the most unfriendly system around.

ah but .......... mickrik 8.1 is not as powerful nor can it deal with rar files, like for instance the italian train files are in.some good trains and routes they have ,but most are rar files ,but winzip 11 just effortly unzips them .and installs them smoothly and easily now.so who needs winrar when winzip can do both types and the top download centre C/NET cant be wrong about winzip being the king of the unzippers, they did get the results from the actual users of this top notch utility.roll on winzip 12. I say
yes the older versions do do well to a point, but only for so long, its just like older versions of photo editors, etc I know someone who is still using his photo editor (adobe one) from the mid 90,s ,but with digital and other new formats etc etc, you still have to upgrade for the latest features and the software and hardware thats comes out .remember new technology happens every day,so its always best to upgrade when you can and always register for the cheap upgrade deals, its worth it.

Hi Scraggy,

I have got winrar as well. There is a fair bit of continental stuff wrapped up in rar files.

When I find I need a new zip tool then I will upgrade.

Hi mikrik yes, but why have 2 utilities when you only need the one?,winzip does both, and also the newer zip files need version 11 as there are some files that older versions of winzip will not work with.get the king of them all.I SAY.
Dont be tightwads get yer dosh out and upgrade you skinflints out there.
