Name the train that looks like a horses behind, has the performance of a donkey or is just plain...well, I won't say the word...

Oddly enough I was just wondering why there was no pacer option! But I suppose you mean post-privatisation in which case I voted for the Adelante because of their many teething troubles.

But whats so great about the dodgy bus on wheels that is the pacer Tyler? I say flog them off to Aberdeen City Council to use as a Light Rail System*!

*No offence intended to any Aberdonians.

Looks like Alstom are severly getting pooed on in the poll.
hehe, how can anybody like pacers....
Alan must not have voted yet 'cos there are no votes for Voyager.
I went for the Adelante, meant to be in service in 2000 and still causing trouble.
The 175 is almost have bad, round here you get days when there are 20 in service or something and other days when FNW presses pacers and 150's onto airport runs cos the damn 175's have gone buggered again.
I must say that
Anyone seen FNW on strike again today, bloody unions...its especially bad up north 'cos all the franchises are expiring and management are simply holding out until its "somebody else's problem".
This post is worth what you paid for it.

I like all DMU's, including the 142's, 143's and 144's. They have something about their charactor that I like, or maybe its just the liverys ;).

My favourite DMU is and always will be the 158's, smoth, comfy and fast, which ironicaly is totaly the oposit of the Pacers.

Yeah the modern train liveries take some beating...that's where BR fell down really.

As for the unions going on strike (although I don't agree with it) it's all about supply and demand. There's a shortage of drivers and they can command huge saleries compared to BR days. The fault of the Tories dividing up the railways, so now drivers hunt for the best salaries. The companies have to pay more otherwise they just leave.

If Railtrack had been divided up then you would have the same problem with signallers. Cos basically without these two groups of staff management are stuffed and you can't run a railway.

So now drivers salaries range between £25-35k. And lets be honest 'up north' your bloody well off on that.

I might have another career change yet....

I was going to vote for the 175s but there very comfy so I voted for the 458s. I think south central have only less than half of there fleet of 458s in service at one time.

I like DMUs too - I agree they have a lot of character and are probably the cutest trains going. However I'm not a fan of bad DMUs - my personal favourite is the class 170 although I like most heritage DMUs too, and even GWR railcars. To me the 170 makes a good improvement on the 158, being smooth, comfy, fast and well designed with mid carrage doors, although the lack of a corridor connector between units is a restriction.

The problem with Pacers for me is that they are just too much like buses externally and have a pretty unpleasant interior, not to mention riding extremly roughly. If I was an operator stuck with them before I sold them to the Aberdonians (replaced by nice 170s and 220s) to make them anywhere near decent for the passengers I would have to fit decent bogies and completely refurbish the interiors. I would also knock down the wall behind the drivers compartment and give the passengers a forward view a la heritage DMUs. Then they would definitely be nice trains! Sadly Arriva's owners are ex-second hand car salesmen and so are unlikely to be aware of what a train should be like, while First (Aberdonians coincidentally) are more likely to be aware of what a bus should be like...

Hmm they must be concentrating on your bit, becaus apart from some very dodgy airline seats for the Pacer classes I haven't seen much evidence of change in them. I agree though the interiors of the TP trains are looking very nice, and I'll definitely be looking forward to the changes on the other classes.
