The automated anouncer we have at Huddersfield is great, you can actualy hear every single word he says. They had the same one at Leeds but now theyve changed to a female automated announcer and its absalutely terrible, because of the higher piched voice you can't hear anything if there's the slightest background noise. On quite a few occasions I've missed platform changes because I cant hear a word she's saying.Oh and Doncaster has an announcer that sounds like julian clarey
Britian's best rail station- ya know where its busy and all?

The announcer at Lancaster has it's moments- sometimes it's the automated one, sometimes one of the staff-they all have characteristics. There was one time when he made an announcement (Probably a delayed train
), and left the microphone button on. You could then hear him talking to people. He said something funny/stupid/embarassing, and slowly, everyone on the station started to laugh. He realised, and made a very quick apology!!!

You know you're a pilot when you drive off a cliff, and your last words are "Gear up!"

yes, the new one at leeds is awful.
the one that was at leeds was the same one that is used at almost all West Yorkshire stations that I've been to. at small stations you only get announcements if the train is delayed or something like that.
by the way, macclesfield is the worst mainline station for information.. no departure board and no announcements (at least none when I was there)

Yes I suppose that is a bit vague
Its very clear and I think its brand new, and another nice thing is that the station names when announced at continuous, it sounds like a real human for once!
Horgy

Okay, i've not read many posts in this thread, but.
How the hell can York be a busy station? When I last went there 4 years a go, I must of seen about 4 trains in a space of 20 minutes. This is on a wednesday. I've seen more at Ashford.
Clapham however has 4 trains every 5 minutes. More platforms, hence Britains busiest railway station....
LOL.
Whats the Worlds busiest station? New York somewhere, It has about 40 platforms? and is on two levels.

The clue is always in the first post! Remember there's a limit of words you can use with the poll system. Problems come about when people don't read the post from the beginning
And yes Clapham junction is the busiest
Followed by Waterloo, Liverpool street, Victoria...
York is not that busy at all really in comparison to some places. About the 500 a day mark.

Sorry chaps, what of BNS! Much though I prefer the ECML, BNS is fantastic.
A) Massive tight track on approach (10mph speedlimit!) and pointworks and slips to give a MSTS modler a nervous breakdown (...go on dear someone to do it 100% correctly!
B) Locomotives 86's, 87'7s, the occasional 90, till recently regular 47's. Plus freight diversion 56's (occasional) & 66's
C)DMUS 150, 156, 158, 170, 175's (?)
D)HST's to become Challenger sets
E) Mk2 & Mk3's
F) 390's & the pretty cross city green ones I used to travel on durrgh
Stockwise, and route wise much more intersting than York
O and glorious station architecture to match hmmm.
Just goes to show too much of a ECML GWML bias on this site!!!!

Sorry, I read faster than I should do.yorkie2k wrote:Goingnorth doesn't make his polls clear!
The poll is for best station rather than busiest - the busiest is Clapham Junction without doubt.
My don't really have a favourite station.....
Probably London Bridge.
