Guess the loco!
Built in 1968, diesel powered and had a top speed of 125 mph...yep 125mph. It had a 4000hp output! British built by Brush, only one made. What was it? And what happened to this remarkable loco?

Try not to laugh....cos it was too heavy! It weighed in at 133 tons, so the track couldn't take it in this country (we have very light rail) at 125mph. So they didn't want to develop it anymore and flogged it to the Ruskkies. Another Great British export...bit like the HST and APT!
The exact history I'm not aware, mainly because I wasn't around at the time, maybe someone would fill in the details...

Kestral
yes Kestral was 133 tonnes it was also said that on a trial run Kestral was summond to move a train the length of Crewe Basford hall yard to Wembley old yard. It did so well it never needed sand and the whole journey was complete with the loco only having to apply 40% throttle to gain maximum speed. However back to its weight, Its rumoured that it derailed in the yard 3 weeks after so they put it up for sale russian portugal and spain making offers Russia winning. Kestral was used right up to the late 80s early 90s when it suffered mechanical problems and its weight actually started to take its toll on the lines it was used on. Also heard that they actually kept kestral sparkling and gleaming whilst stored until the fate of the cutters tourch not long after. RIP Kestral
