There has been much talk lately, generated by a percieved 'mis-use' of the forums as to the fact that the raison d'etre has been lost under the quagmire of postings which are not appertaining purely to train sim matters.
Well, as I am stuck on a night shift and have nothing better to do, I have taken yesterday (and a bit after midnight) as a 'snapshot' of UKTS forum use and the results of the 190 postings made are as follows;
Forum posts purely relating to the subject matter - 55% (111)
Irrelevant comments with some MSTS connection - 12% (23)
Posts which are not related to MSTS in any way - 33% (56)
Not sure what it proves or even why I thought it would be interesting to read, count and classify them, but it passed the time until it was time to put the kettle on again!

I'd reckon that most of that 33% of nonesense posts were mine!

Nevre mind, if I explained it'd only make this thread off-topic, too.

Does it really matter? For any internet site (or tv, radio, paper or any other media format) there is one thing that is important: PUNTERS.
In other words: HITS, HITS and MORE HITS!
As long as people keep turning up I don't suppose Matt is too worried, nor would any other website owner be.
Why do they turn up?
Number one reason is the downloads
Number two reason is reasonable debate on any subject, but mainly on MSTS/Rail. That's it really. If you censor too much people will bog off, if you edit too little then the the forums may decend into flame wars or become very uninteresting. I don't think that's going to happen, at least here.

The site was probably a bit 'incestuous' at the beginning with few members .... downloads were appallingly low to the point where people were thinking of giving up or finding alternative outlets.
Now the membership has grown and downloads often reach Trainsim.com levels.
That's going to mean more 'discussion' and more 'moderation' but I don't reckon it'll ever get that bad as its mainly British or ex-pats and its not our way.

Hi Basil
The answer to your comment about my avater in the screenshots forum is that it was drawn by my 9 year old neice, unprompted, after a trip to said miniature railway near Eastleigh.
Now she's discovered MSTS so I am putting together some 9 year olds boredom threshhold type activities for her.
Regards
Dave.
