I'll tell you what is wrong with the 158 - it has the First Class stripe. None of the transpennine-based units had First Class originally, that was a Transpennine Express initiative and came with the new livery. The only 158s built with First Class were the Scotrail units, and they had permanent snowploughs under the cab. Unfortunately, the unit they've modelled doesn't.

The 158 looks ok, but I think its in need of somr better texture work to bring out the best in the model.47522 wrote:Well the 158 looks like a 158...
What do people see that i dont?
The shape looks correct

But it looks like its just going to be the RR livery, so doesnt really matter. Guess most of the stock is going to used from the UKTS library.

I was on Donny station last week going to Sheffield, and Northern Rail are still using a Silverlink 321 on the Leeds shuttle at the moment, while their own 321/9's are refurbished and re-painted, so even one of those would not look out of place in an activityNiallGray wrote:Constructively speaking...
The 321 cab is too flat (vertical), it needs that slight, sloping angle on the front and maybe thicker frames around the window. The other other thing I would change is the windows in the first seating bays after the cab.
I hope they can alter the model for WCML as a Silverlink 321 would be great for route.
On the other hand, I don't have any problems with the 158, like Buffy, I think it looks reasonable.
Cheers,
Terrone.
I will probably never be able to single-handedly solve any problems that i have with my MSTS-Hence you are all my heroes.

Another thing is that the 158's skirting doesn't go down low enough, giving the front the appearance of being too wide, a bit squashed.
According to my 1995 Platform 5 combined volume, 158743 was built for Scotland and allocated to Haymarket. So the First Class is actually correct for the unit number, but therefore that particular unit should have below-cab snowploughs. And of course never worked south of Edinburgh, and so shouldn't be on the addon.
Looks like EB scored an own-goal.
The other thing that makes the front look strange is the amount of yellow. Originally, the entire windscreen/destination blind/headlight cluster assembly of TPX units was completely black, with yellow around the edges, and looked a lot more sleek than the portrayed Scotrail-style version, which has yellow highlighting.
The Scotrail front end is shown here:

The original colouring on the transpennine and WYPTE units' cabs is shown here:

Note that the English units had glass in the corridor connection door, whereas the Scotrail units did not.
So a correct transpennine-build two-car 158 should be numbered from 158760-779, or 781. A 3 car unit would be 158798-814. WYPTE are 158901-910. It should have the normal lower skirting at the front, and have no First Class. It should also say EXPRESS in the bodyside stripes, not Regional Railways (only the Canton and Crown Point units had that.)

Well your quite right Seb, i used to love that WYPTE Metrotrain maroon and cream livery on the 155's,144's,158's and 321's, now just a distant memory because Northern are repainting them!

You misunderstand me. As built, in the Regional Railways Express livery, the only 158 units with first class were the Scottish units, but they had snowploughs and never worked in Yorkshire. 158743 is a Scottish unit, so not only have they picked a train that is completely out of place, they've also modelled it wrong by omitting the snowplough.Well if its got the first class, but that was a ftpe initiative, it doesnt really matter as the unit isnt a ftp unit

I'm originally from York and I travelled to see relatives in Halifax a lot, usually a WYTPE 158 or 155. That livery was awesome (the revised Metro livery looks good too!) Although I have travelled across the Marsden route on a 158/9 all the way to Liverpool, and I have a photo of one on a Wigan to Lime Street service

Yeh, Seb it did look fantastic, the only ones with it on now are the last remaining class 155 units in the West Yorkshire area.passedcleaner wrote:I'm originally from York and I travelled to see relatives in Halifax a lot, usually a WYTPE 158 or 155. Having kept looking at the screenshots I think the two units look perfect!!!
But I know that Train Sim cannot be 100% accurate but they should have definitely picked a different running number for the 158. Like 158763 and 158773 these units have definitely worked in the area in the past unlike 158743 (well it did but never in that livery). Also the branding wasn't regional railways but EXPRESS lettering with RR on the end of the coaches.
But anyway they look great anyway and just about to order my copy!!
Thanks
