Consist Editor Problem

Post by mikesimpson »

While developing/testing Route-Riter, I have been downloading rolling-stock every day, and today when I went to run the Consist Editor, it works fine for Electric and Steam locos, Passenger stock and wagons.

However if you select Diesel then nothing appears in the list of stock and I get a message to send back to Bill Gates.

I assume therefore that one of the Diesel locos I have downloaded within the last couple of weeks has a problem. However checking the stock with ConBuilder has not shown any problems (Apart from about 20 wagons I have downloaded here all of which had faulty .sd files - references to the wrong .s files in nearly every case  ).

Has anyone else found a bad diesel loco recently, or do I now have to remove each one individually until it starts working again?

I have had the same thing with steam locos, and the only way out is to re-install

Alternatively you could carry on by using one of the the third party consist editors.

Have you hit the maximum number of consists? or perhaps two diesels with the same name inside the .eng files?

I have had the same problem with steam locos for several weeks now. I have tried sequentially removing a loco and trying the Editor. No luck. In fact, when A$ Dominion of Canada and KimSim 71000 are removed, the editor crashes even earlier! For some reason it appears to me that the problem is the rendering of the side-one view.

Hi All,

Thanks for the responses (even if throwing the PC in the harbour seems to be the best fix).

I have not got a great number of consists, so that is not it.

I think I will go the way of manually writing my own consists, as I do not like diesels anyway, seems the easiest way, however I will check and see if there are two .eng files with the same names in there somewhere.

Did you solve your problem? I have solved my similar one making great use of Route Riter to do it.

No, I have not had time to look at it, too busy fixing Route-Riter so that everyone else can use it :-)

I found that the problem MUST be with a loco in the particular type which is NOT in any consists. Take the list of locos not in consists from Route Riter and remove them. This should resolve the problem. You can then replace them one-by-one and find the problem loco.

Funnily enough, there was a thread on train-sim.com today with exactly the same symptoms. It turned out that the user had used ConBuilder and it told him there was a problem in the sw12emrr.eng file and to edit it.

On thinking back, this is the same message ConBuilder sent me!

I have deleted said Loco and all is well.

Mike, I have that loco, I get the error (I can't select it in AE) but the rest of my diesel loco selection works fine. The EMRR Sw1200 is in a few consists too (I can even play the activities it uses, just not select it in AE - very strange).

So it's not just me then...

I've got exactly the same problem - Consist Editor crashes with Send/Don't Send whenever I try to select diesel loco's.

Again, problem only arose very recently - in last couple of weeks - and I can't identify which loco' caused it. I have deleted the most recent ones I downloaded (just the loco directories, not consists), but this doesn't seem to be helping.

Have also tried checking the loco files in ConBuilder for errors - nothing showing up.

Can anyone help?

Please?!

Delete all the diesel locos not in consists. It will be one of these which is causing the problem.

Using the "CheckUp" option in Route Control Lite (free from http://www.howintheworld.com/routecontrol.shtml) solved a whole variety of similar issues for me (especially the non-stop horn when selecting a diesel loco).

Route Control checkup doesn't bring up any problems other than ones I already know about with activities/consists.

How do I find out which loco's are not associated with any consists (short of checking every single consist)?

Thanks again.
