This looks like another promising 3DTS venture, and I wonder what the 2 exclusive steamers are, I hope they are not Dukedogs seen as I have nearly finished my one, and I hope its not a Manor as Railwaves are making that!

I don't think that you can really say "are commercial add-ons better", we have extremely professional level people in the freeware community giving their work away so whether or not something is charged for doesn't really give you a gauge as to its quality.
Pay-ware is just another source of add-ons and just one that you may tend to think harder about before you go for it.
I've seen some commercial stuff I like (3DTrainStuff are responsible for the majority of it, it has to be said, not to mention the fact that they're the only folk to really give any attention to us Brits), some I don't, some freeware I make sure is installed as soon as I put a new installation of Train Sim on and some that I don't rush too much for.
So i'll abstain from voting from this one given the missing third option 'doesnt matter, good work is good work whether you pay for it or download it for free'
Matt.

Same here. I also remember the BRCW Parcels units making regular appearances.MartinH wrote:The Cambrian was my local line as a kid (although it was 101s, 103s and 108s by then plus 25s on the goods) so I'm looking forward to this one.
If they're making two steam locos, one is bound to be a Manor.
Just a thought, but if they're making the line to represent the 1960s/70s are they going to put the Vale of Rheidol into the old Carmarthen bay at Aberystwyth, and if so, how are they going to model it?

It's a commercial company.
We'll soon have GW mixed traffic 4-6-0s coming out of our ears - Railwaves' one, 3DTS' one, I think a freeware one is on the books here? Will be interesting to compare them.

One thing I’d like to mention here is that our work is in no way meant to compete with the fabulous work done by so many of the people here, like Ian, Mark, Kim, Paul and many others, but rather to compliment their work and add to the overall enjoyment of MSTS. There’s no reason you can’t take one of Ian’s or Kim’s locomotives and run it down the Cambrian route, and on the same note, take one of our locomotives and run it down your favorite downloaded route.
Now speaking of the overall enjoyment of MSTS, you’ll notice that our future projects are geared towards everyone and not just the people that know what they are doing. The goal being that someone can just pop a CD in their drive and install everything in one go, from locomotives to rolling stock, routes and activities, then start MSTS and go. This will allow the average MSTS user a chance to keep it simple, while allowing the more experienced community users a chance to do work their own ideas and magic.
Cheers,
James.

Hi James
Are you able to advise what locos and stock will be included with the route? And what liveries they will carry? Knowing what commercial versions of models are on their way may be a help to freeware builders who can then model other subjects.
Thanks

I am making the free version of the Manor but I wont be giving up. quite the opposite, I am emailing railwaves now to see if they already have a manor built, if they do then fine but if not I will be offering my services to them for my manor.saddletank wrote:We'll soon have GW mixed traffic 4-6-0s coming out of our ears - Railwaves' one, 3DTS' one, I think a freeware one is on the books here? Talking of Cambrian I travelled on the 12.10 Aberystwyth-Birmingham New st relief hauled by 37421 on monday. It was a great journey with a loco quite authenic to the line. There has always been a connection between 37s and the Cambrian. Nice to enjoy a thing of the 80s in my lifetime which may not happen again.
Barmouth Bridge looks good. Not sure about the rest. I mean, those first screenshots could be anywhere!

Selecting my 3DTS UK Route Developer's hat from the rack, can I just emphasise the Cambrian is still very much a route under development. The WIP shots were chosen to give a little taste of what is to come. Rest assured the team is well aware of the standards being set in freeware routes and are working hard to ensure our little route offers a highly enjoyable driving experience. James has already mentioned the policy of making an add on pack a "one stop shop" for the end user.
We will be updating the route information and adding more screenshots in due course.
