I have run most parts of the route by now both in activity and explore mode and have no crashes whatsoever.

I think that some of the problems people are encountering is either explained or very closely related to the one John (Yelland) describes and has nothing to do with fps but the number of sounds MSTS is dealing with at certain points of the route. Though all my settings are on maximum I have no problems, but the PC has 2Gb of memory and this may significantly be helping to overcome the crashes.

Perhaps I ought to run and install the route on my old PC, but am a bit too lazy to do that, especially as my daughter and grandson are over for the weekend.

As I reported earlier the black screen/MSTS crash on exiting activities/explore mode has now been resolved. I think this is related to one of the supplied activities. The Sim always seemed to be looking for some item of stock I considered it didn't need and which I couldn't find. (something to do with a folder called bullset or bulliedset- can't quite remember now). In the end I stored the route in Train Store and then unstored it and the problem went away.

I also experience the breaking consist on game save on the Soton/Bourn activity. I have a BATS consist which breaks between vehicles 3 and 4 and not immediately behind the tender. Again it does all appear as completely connected when pressing F9. I find I can't recouple either by trying when the activity is reloaded, or even if I go to F9 and disconnect the consist there. The engine and leading vehicle make an impact noise on meeting the rest of the consist but continue to travel right through the coaches as though they weren't there. This happens whether in activity mode or explore mode when starting at Southampton. A curious but small problem, as other game saves are working ok and the route can easily be managed without game saves.

An excellent job which has already given great pleasure.

OK - Sorry to sound a bit frustrated but I have now tried everything everybody has suggested on this forum and it's not working. :(

I cannot unzip file 16212 - everytime I do this I get the following message:

"The compressed (zipped) folder is invalid or corrupt"

I don't have WINZIP - I am just attempting to extract the files.

I have also downloaded this file 6 or 7 times now just to see if it's a dodgy download issue but still no luck. File size is 2.25MB everytime.

Sorry to sound like a plonker but It's really annoying.

Please help.

jascott wrote:The instructions on the download page are, I think, a bit unclear. This is what I did.

Download all 6 files and place in a temp folder called whatever you like.
Highlight files 16207/08/09/10/11 ( NOT file 16212) and in Winzip - "Extract to here".
This should add Watersnake.z01 - .z05 to the folder.

Remove the UKTS prefix from file 16212 leaving it as Watersnake.zip.

Highlight Watersnake.zip and "Extract to here".

This should produce a folder called Watersnake containing all the route files. (should be 250Mb)

Cut and paste this folder into your Routes folder.

Hi Rick
Thanks for the reply I'm still persevering.
The problem Manty had with the train seperating after saving I have had with this engine on an activity I wrote for myself on Steyning.

I have now run the Soton/Bournemouth activity with other consists and can report no problems when saving the game: the consists remains intact on reloading.

The consist with which I was having problems I then ran from Bournemouth to Soton. Once again the consist broke after a game save, which clearly indicates a problem with the way the coaches are connecting. I know its not the loco because there is another vehicle between the tender and the first coach and the brake occurred there, not immediately behind the tender.

Whatever the cause, it cannot therefore be a route problem!

I tried to sort it out with winRAR and the zip extractor in XP and neither of them worked. I needed to use winZIP 10 which you can get free without registering or paying etc. at,

http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=winzip

it did the trick for me and its working fine. Just follow the instructions posted earlier about how to extract and it should work with WinZIP 10.

CNMcd, that`s a really good link. Might be worth adding to the zip sticky on the beginners file
http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?t=66323
New Forest was zipped on winzip 8.1.
Re the other route problems. I`m currently trying John and Choccy`s suggestion of reducing quantity of sounds from high to medium (in MSTSoptions). I neglected trying this because I haven`t added extra sounds to the route, but there are train sounds of course.
Looks promising so far but I will let you know wbhen I`ve run lots of tests

I used the free 7Zip from http://www.7-zip.org/ to install this route with no problems.
