I figured it out before I read this.

It would help if the file Watersnake.zip was double zipped.

That way it could be unzipped to the same folder as the other zips and without the UKST_ prefix.

Perhaps Matt could do this to avoid a delay in approving it. Worth a PM.

Agreed, I also worked this out last night, and tried to post the solution, but couldn't post a thread for some reason.

I think the missing step in the instructions is that the main zip file must have the UKTS ID removed (and so be called Watersnake.zip). I'd tend to agree that the easiest way to do this is as suggested, to double zip that file and extract it with the others. That way, a readme could also be included in that zip file including the installation instructions.

Just to say though, when you do get it installed, the route looks very nice. I had a quick run with one of the supplied activities last night and all that was missing was some AI traffic. I'm looking forward to some good activities for this route, nobody can say that the Southern Region isn't pretty well covered now!

I managed to get it run after a bit false start and will say it is typical of the Southern Region in the steam era.

So far I have run the School run activity and am realy impressed with both Brockenhurst and Ringwood stations.

I changed the Ivatt and coaches for the ones I remembered as a boy in the 60's. I used the Bats M7+ 2 Southern Region Green coaches and a BR green CCT.

I hope this route proves as popular as Dorset Coast, with activity writers especialy as there are some really good Southern Region steam loco's from BATS and most ran over both parts of the route.

Just a P.S. The Ringwood Schools Run ran OK it didn't crash at the end, I got the normal activity ended message

I`ve ammended the download instructions to include deleting the UKFS file prefix. I hope this will be clearer to downloaders now.
I was aware of the need for double zipping, so the files 1-5 are double zipped. But I didn`t realise that the final file would need double zipping too. Sorry my inexperience caused problems.
I could double zip the final file, but will this need approval? Or cause chaos to people part way through downloads? Perhaps I could try it early morning when most are offline.
Otherwise as you say a PM to Matt.
Oh! and thanks for the kind words about the route

I kept getting the Corrupt Folder message on the last file, even tried downloading it again before I tried Winrar instead of Winzip.

Bingo!

Well, this is absolutely extraordinary - there is now a route that goes right through my garden ! I thought it was pretty lucky getting the Dorset route - that runs fairly close at Brockenhurst to New Milton.
But now I reckon I'm presently sitting smack on the siding on the down line at the currently unnamed station between Ringwood and West Moors. This station should be titled " Ashley Heath ". This line used to be known as "The Old Road", and is now the Castleman Trailway. The line was last used in 1958. The up platform is still in place with the station nameboard still there, although heavily overgrown with weeds, small bushes and even some trees, now.
The road at this station should be just to the up (East) end of the platforms, where there used to be a skewed level crossing.
Practically all the roads and gradients on the Brockenhurst through to West Moors are absolutely spot on. It must have taken an astounding amount of research to get that level of detail so correct.
Just one teeny-weeny niggle, though - Wimbourne should in fact be "Wimborne", I think. Mind you, maybe it was "Wimbourne" 60 or so years ago ! Cerainly, Brockenhurst was definitely "Brokenhurst" 100 years ago. The railway got it wrong, adding the "c".

In the 1960's the name for Wimborne, was Wimbourne as I can remember the Hants & Dorset No 24 to Shaftsbury went through Wimbourne.

That's how it was spelt on the bus, I used to catch it from Kinson, or you could go to Bear Cross and get one from Poole that only went to Wimbourne.

You could aslo walk down to New Road and get a Hants & Dorset 13 which used to go to Southampton via Ringwood.

In those days it was Bristol K and F, the no 3 operated by BCT used to go to Bear Cross they were operated by Half cab Leyland Titans.

Hi everyone

Got it installed ok but, whenever I approach Brockenhurst from either the wimbourne branch or the lymington branch I get a 'Send, Dont Send' come up about a mile or so away. I've got Dirtroads, UKFS &c installed and everything else seems to be in place. Got me foxed!

Any Ideas?

A very nice looking route but I have the same problem as Darren on the School and LymBrok activities. I also have all the required files in place, UKFS etc.

Darren, Colin

Try running the route with your display settings turned down.....just in cases its connected with memory problems.

Or try installing the MSTSBin patch...

Hi Doug

I've tried that, it was the first thing I did and I'm running bin 1.7. I'll try a re-install and see if that works. Grrrr MSTS

New Forest Route

Post by colinlee »

Hi Doug,
Thanks for the advice but I'm running bin1.7 patch and have turned my settings down to much lower than I run Dorset Coast, TM, or Steyning on . I haven't tried explore mode yet.
Also on the 3rd activity I get a spad before I start but I have changed the consist there to another BATS Loco so that is probably my own fault.
Regards
Colin

I have run all three activities but with different stock and haven't got any of the Send/Don't Send messages.

However at the end of all three activities, when the clock has run down Train Sim does then always crash.
