Gooische Stoomtram

Post by fadedGlory »

For those of you who may think that Steam Trams were a sleepy, boring backwater, have a look at this:

Image

Picture taken at Amsterdam Weesperpoort in August 1927. It shows two trams from the Gooische Stoomtram ready to depart, one to Laren and the other one to Muiderberg. The last coach on the right is one of the beautiful 'Goerlitzers', the one on the left is a Beijnes coach as I have tried to model them. You can also spot three of the very large open coaches built by Alan in Rotterdam.

Still so much to do... :)

Ha! Not a chance, you guys have already retreated into your impregnable 'British Trams' Forum where I can't post!
Genuine .... no sarcasm intended.

It really is standard gauge, it connected to the main Dutch railway system at several places (in fact, one of those places was immediately behind the goods shed you see in the background of the photograph).

There was some exchange of goods vehicles between the two systems, and two of the steam engines as well as a number of sand wagons were equipped with railway buffers and three-link couplings in addition to the tram buffers and couplings.

You are right, the trams are narrow. So were some of the streets it had to squeeze through!
