Bluebell Railway RIP

Post by MikeM7044T »

Bluebell Railway RIP
I am sadly announcing that the Bluebell Railway project has ceased construction and is to be permenantly terminated due to these factors;
1] Microsoft's bug-rindled program and rubbish technology.
2] I can't keep up having to deal with all these bugs on my own.
3] The Bluebell Railway has passed its time anyway.
4] All the track is faulty.
At first, I thought people wouldn't mind, then realised they would, but then thought maybe I should get rid of the Bluebell Route for good.
This decision sticks and the Bluebell Railway for MSTS is to be deleted.
I would like to apologise to;
1] Edward Farms-Who's U Classes 1618 and 31638 are now all for not.
2] Ian Morgan-Who kindly was to make a P Class and contributed his Terriers to the project when it was in action
3] And in general to all those who had their hopes set on the susex line, but rest assured that all you would be getting is a piece of bug-rindelled garbage, no more.
In saying this I am refering not to the models made especially for it, but the route, and the whole Microsoft Train Simulator package in its entirety.
The latest bug has removed most of the track around Horsted Keynes station, and yet I can still drive over it, but, about 6 seconds later into driving time, it [the sim] freezes, and I am forced to Ctrl+Alt+Del and restart my P.C.
Yesterday this happened 6 times.
So I am basically removing the Bluebell Railway, and Microsoft Train Simulator from my computer, and am pushing back the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch railway start date.
But be warned, it will be a long time before I think about starting another route.
I would personally like to thank everyone who took an interest in the route.
Thankyou.

Mike,

Sorry to hear that its getting the better of you - wish I could help but I won't even venture inside that thing... I hope you have a nice break and can come back feeling a little better about it all. Just remind yourself at the end of the day, it is a game and nobody has died so its not all that bad - even though you must be mightily p*ssed at the moment...

Thankyou so much Basil, I just hope everyone else is so understanding.
Just goes to show routes are maybe best left to those such as Tim Court, goingnorth, Nolly, and others...

I can totally understand the way you feel Mike. I to uninstalled MSTS some weeks ago to give myself a total break from its time consuming frustrations. Trouble is I keep seeing all these wonderful new loco's being uploaded and I know that the temptation will be too much soon. :-)

I used to download them without MSTS, then when HD space or time clears up, then reinstall MSTS.

Sorry to hear the news about the end of the bluebell railway Mike. Don't worry about the U moguls, as 1618 is now going to be uploaded here and 31638 is going to be kept on my computer (and probably yours) cause you never know when it will be needed.

I fully understand your sentiments. I started a US route way back last year which crashed in major style four times. I stopped working on it in January after version 5 looked like heading the same way. Nonetheless, I fully intend to work on a route in future and Lake Milconsin may yet see the light of day. Part of the route building 'thing' seems to be patience, pig-headedness, and a blatant refusal to accept reality. :) I guess at the end of the day, whatever the problems, I want to create something usuable from the RE. What can I say? Take a break, have fun, and tackle the RE refreshed sometime later.

I know just how you feel Mike. I started creating my own route, spent around 28 hours(approx, perhaps a bit less). Was quite proud of how it was progressing. And then I load it up again, and I'm faced with that dreaded 'Train Simulator has experienced an error and needs to close' error message for no apparant reason. I try rebuilding the track database but I also get that same darn erroe message. All those hours spent on the project wasted. I will shortly start afresh with my route, but if I get that error message again I'm calling it a day.

Sorry to hear that you wont be continuing with your route by the way, it would have been a welcome addition to the UK routes available.

I find it amazing that people like Tim C can survive the route editor for 11 months, it really does seem a most unstable thing.

I really think I must have some kind of Guardian angel looking over me and my system (oops think i have spent too much time in the US!)

Seriously though I have had the dreaded error a couple of times but all it did was ditched everything I had done since my prior save in RE which was no big deal since I save after every few objects anyway.

I am running a Home build with AMD xp2000 processor and gigabyte Mother board, IBM Hard Drive, Nvidia Geforce 2 TI 32 agp graphics card.

Since I started the route I have changed windows from 98 to xp, changed 3 motherboards and 2 processors and 2 graphics cards

Thes wernt through breakdowns but just upgrades, consequentially each motherboard change was a full sustem re install and the route from my master CDrw x 2

so I really don't know why I don't get these issues.

Sorry to hear that Mike.

Like Tim I must be quite blessed as the RE has rarely sprung up and bit me in the .. However it does have problems and I know sometimes it's like treading on eggs hoping it doesn't bring the whole lot down.
