what route did you drive first?
When you first brought MS Train Sim, installed it and loaded it up, what route did you drive first?

NEC I think. I haven't seriously driven either of the europe routes, because they're both steam based and I still haven't completely got the hang of steam locos.
I soon got bored of msts, then one day discovered t****-s**.com, found the "modern england" route - that was v3 and all the activities I could find were v2 and/or needed stock from trainsimfiles which had just disappeared - thats when I decided to write my own.
I then discovered UKTS; grabbed Tim's ECML 3; and since then haven't put MSTS down!

I have to admit that I was a complete wus and did the tutorials first.
After that I divided my time between the two US routes while scouring the internet for UK downloads to turn the sim into what I wanted it to be.
One year on and now the route I drive the most is ECML 3. It just kinda like hits the spot.
Regards
Dave.

I driven on the S&C first obviously to find out how realisic it is and how good scotsman is. At first I was amazed that you could drive it like the real thing and how realistic the scenery was. Now to me the S&C seems boring and lifeless with much better trains and routes to use now. The standards have simply gone higher.

Agree entirely. I was knocked out when I first saw it. Definitely got used to far better things since then.JohnEyres wrote:I driven on the S&C first obviously to find out how realisic it is and how good scotsman is. I started with the Marias Pass (2 Dash 9s with 20 boxcars I think it was in Explore Route mode all the way from Whitefish to Shelby). I didn't touch the S&C for quite a while and when I did it was with a Kiha railcar. The other route that I never drove was Innsbruck - St.Anton. Strange how things have changed. My favourites are now PDEE's S&C (well his Skipton extension actually since I'm lucky enough to be testing it) and Arlberg2 (electrified Innsbruck-St.Anton).

I had S&C for 6 days, then Orient Express, and on my second install of Innsburuck to St. Anton, I reccomend taking a Bullied pacific with CCT's and Pullmans up to St. Anton, its like the European Mid-Hants line.
But after a while I realised that all the routes were so unrealistic I decided to make Hastings-Ashford and the Bluebell.

Oddly enough, i still haven't driven the entire length of any of the default routes, except for Settle and Carlisle, and thats only about once or twice.
Oddly enough, i've driven the entire length of both the ECML and S&C 1930 several hundred times (The only non-default routes i have).

Settle & Carlisle. I also used Tokyo-Hakone and the NEC occasionally. Innsbruck - St. Anton I didn't use because it wasn't electrified- I soon learnt- now the Arlbergbahn has superceded it. Hisatsu I hardley ever used, and Marias Pass almost never, although they're quite scenic.
I still use them occasionally, particularly S&C- I really ought to get round to getting Pat Dalton's CD.

S & C - I was horrendously short on disk space at the time so it was the only one I could get on. Then realised I couldn't run any of the electric stuff and put NEC on (at this point discovered MSTS's quirky inability to do an extension to an existing installation without a full uninstall-reinstall).
Only when I got my new HD did I get all 6 routes on!
Now apart from Woodhead V2 for development, I only run the Tokyo route to get Tram Screenshots (are you reading this freddie?)

I bought the product back in September last year. It actually ended up on a shelf unopened until January!
When I installed it and ran it, the first route was the Settle Carlisle (confession - I still haven't run any of the other ones at all, only other people's UK routes
)
I must admit I cringed when I saw Microsoft's reproduction of Settle. I grew up in Settle and I wondered which map they looked at!
I travelled to Carlisle and then decided i didn't like it. I'd been making accurate model railways for 25 years + and this product lacked a lot of detail. After this it was time to sell......
HOWEVER, I discovered UKTrainsim and bought Pat Dalton's CD and that changed me completely. After using and understanding the Route Editor, the next step was getting TrainSim Modeler and making the LMS/BR signals. Next i drove along Rob's GNER route and I keep doing it because he's done a fantastic job (can't wait until it's finished).
Now I'm hooked on the product and I've got a list as long as your arm of 3d models I intend to make.
One friend at work commented recently that I wouldn't even notice the divorce papers when they arrived
