Hi there, i was just wondering if it was possible to retexture current track in routes to a texture that would make the route look better. Can you do this without re-laying the whole of the track again?

Yes you can change track textures (without relaying the route). All textures are found in the Textures folder of that particular route -
For Xtracks routes:
The files that is responsible for track texture is acleantrackbase , acleantrack1 and acleantrack2
Find a route you like which you like the look of the track texture, and simply copy those files over into the route of your choice (always a good idea to make a backup of the old files though)
In a similar way - you can change other textures such as track tunnels (atracktunfloor and atuntrackwall for X-tracks).
For UK Finescale:
Track textures are available on the UKTS site http://ukfs.trainsimfiles.com/download/ , I think instructions are given on there about how to change textures.
Hope this helps, and if you aren't sure of what you are doing 100%, make a backup of the route folder.

"Smoother Tracks" are not track textures, they are curved tracks replacements with less kinks in them.
If my easy to use 12 TRACKS-CHANGER options are not enough, Scott's tracks are part of, then try my more than 40 versions colection of track textures:
