getting nowhere with Great Eastern

Post by cambrian06 »

I'm having a major problem getting Great Eastern to work properly. When I first got the route I wasl running a relatively low spec pc and I assumed that this was part of the problem. However I have since indulged in a new pc and still have the same problem. At mp 12 northbound or mp 14 southbound the screen freezes, the sound loops and I get the error message "no extended shape data file for tracktrees9.s"
No amount of playing with the settings improves things, indeed if I reduce the settings too far the route refuses to load, crashing to desktop part way through setting up simulation user interface. MT tech support do not seem to be able to offer a solution. The shape file for tracktrees9.s is present and correct. PC spec is AMD athlon 64x2 3800+ procesor, Nvidia geforce 7600GS 256mb graphics card, SATA hard drive, 1Gb RAM.
This pc gets max or almost max frame rates on all my other routes.
Can anyone offer me any hope on this or should my MSTS most wanted wish list now include bus replacement service!
Sorry if I've gone on a bit but this is the first time I've never made any progress at all with a MSTS problem.

Hi,

Have you tried running it through route-riter? If not, that might be a good start. I got some problems with it too at first. Ran it through Route-Riter and got nothing though, but its a good first step.

What cured it for me was just a re-install of GE and upgrading it with the 2 updates (1.1 and 1.2)

Hope this helps,

Chris

While the shape file (*.s) may be there, I think the message indicates that the missing file is in fact the related *.sd file, which I believe is the one that contains the 'extended shape' data.
I don't know if it's possible to extract just that file from the archive or whether you'll need to reinstall GE to get it.

Hi

"no extended shape data file for tracktrees9.s"

That is not the s file...but the sd file.

Don't know if that will help.

Cheers
Jon

Edit..double post..Barry's correct...if you need it, email me and I'll send it to you.

This file should be installed with Great Eastern ... if it isn't, then its generally a sign that there is other stuff missing from your Great Eastern installation as well so I would recommend reinstalling it from the CD and then installing the Patches available from UKTS and MT sites.

Hi guys - thanks for your help so far.
Yes. I thought that for a moment the sd file had solved the problem, I got past mp12 anyway! only to grind to a halt a little further up the line with a missing texture file message. I've now installed route riter and it shows too many missing files to list. I;ve already tried reinstalling from the cd several times, is there any way I can check if missing files are actually on the cd?

I got this problem too. But cured it with the patches to 1.1 and 1.2. Have you installed these, if not, here are the links:

Alternatively, download them from the MT website.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Chris, it looks athough you may have given me the solution. MT's website indicates that the patches are cumulative, however I've just tried installing the 11 patch AFTER the 12 patch and things seem to be working.
Haven't had chance for a full testing yet but it looks promising.

Can you point to where it says this for GE ? (It does for LSE, because its true for LSE)
The GE upgrades are not cummulative as the size would get fairly extreme for the downloads.
If you can point to where is says that they are I will edit that page as its not correct. (I've had a quick look and it did not jump out at me)

From the GE V1.2 upgrade description under installation ......... "This patch replaces the version 1.11 patch that was issued as the files supplied in that version are included in this installer"

Yes, the patch does replace 1.11 but it is not cumulative in that you still need 1.1 installed correctly for 1.2 to work.

Erm, while I guess in principle that is the same as cummulative, its not the intention.
1.11 was an interim solution due a balls up actually introducing some problems in 1.1.
But your problem was obviously due to having installed 1.2 without 1.1.
