Hi John,
that's looking good.
Just two comments. You don't appear to be using bin1.6? I haven't really used many of the gimmicks since I installed it but I do think it improves running and it's transparent driving aids are excellent. It also gives much more flexible camera angles.
The other point is, and this is a matter of taste, that the track texture you're using rather "sticks out" from the ground texture. As I say a personal choice and I certainly like the rails to shine on top whilst showing some weathering but some of the lighter ballast textures make the track look like old Tri-ang 00 scale track.......
that kind of dates me doesn't it???
Look forward to more screens.
Are you going to include some of the large tank engines that were developed purely for hauling coal in that region? Can't think what they were called now but I think they were 4-6-4s. I'll lok em up.

Hi Geoff,
Thanks for the post.
I am using Bin1.6 but without the driver aids. I decided to stick with the aids I already had.
The texture I am using was on advice received. Of the two types supplied with UKFS this one is closer to the ballast used in this area during the period. So I am told. I certainly can't remember, so don't know. Today's track bed with concrete sleepers and uniform grey stone certainly doesn't look like the screens shots.
Looking at some of the colour photos I have the beds vary, with light brown, dark brown and grey in places.
I think I will try the grey textures this afternoon and post a screenshot. Maybe others can give their opinions as to which looks best.

If 4-6-4 tank locos were ever used in South Wales they must have been very rare birds! . the GWR was fond of 2-8-0 and 2-8-2 tanks, the 2-8-2's being conversions from the 2-8-0s to give greater coal capacity for longer journeys.

Ok, 2 further screenshots. I won't make any more here as I'm aware that these are outside the screenshots forum.
Both are at the same location just outside Elba Steel Works in Gowerton and approaching Gowerton North station.
1 showing brown ballast the other grey.
I'm so used to working with the brown ballast I can't see the grey working for this route. Unless other's can prove different.
What are your preferences?

Note the 2-8-0

Nice shots! What stage is the upgrade to this route at?
I prefer the brown ballast -not sure if it's prototypical or not but IMHO, it "sits in" better with the terrain.
Cheers

Looking nice
I prefer the grey ballast myself. It's up to you at the end of the day. The user can always change the colour if they want to.

As Gary says, it's very much your route, so ask opinions by all means, but ultimately go with what you feel works best for you!
