Field Trips
On the back of Ed & Horgy's Big Adventure post I wondered who else has been daft enough to make a field trip for the purposes of building routes/scenery/rollingstock for MSTS?
I'll start it off by saying that I spent most of a day at Easter roaming the Longdendale Valley and South Yorkshire in pursuit of Lay-Of-The-Land shots for Woodhead V2.0.

Never mind field trips for route builders I went over to Immingham the other day just to get some photos of Grids and railway buildings purely for model building puposes, it took me bak to those old teenage days of being a trainspotter.
BTW Immingham is still brilliant with loads of light engine and freight movements and not a pacer/sprinter in sight, its just a shame that you cannot get around the depots any more these days.

I've been to the Highworth/Swindon area 3 times on fieldwork, walked the whole line - the bits you can get to without ignoring too many 'private' notices
Took stacks of photos, used a GPS to get the positions right, even did a field sketch or two.
Been to Swindon museum archives to look for photos of the main line circa 1922 (and met up with Caldrail for the day - very enjoyable, especially the Arkells beer in the evening!!!).
Intend to get to Didcot later this summer to photograph all sorts of lineside stuff like notices, plus rolling stock of course.
Went to Bewdley and Kidderminster to photograph loads of GWR 'furniture' around stations, yards, and some wagons, etc.
I love routebuilding - you get some really nice days out !!!
