Does anyone get the same message as me when playing this activity on east coast part 1

Activity ended - car de-railed when in new barnet platform.

I get that one all the time, must be some kind of bug.

Could well be a collision 'off-camera' of an AI train; there are some stock items with known Bounding Box size errors that can cause this to happen, but it's not the only cause.
I assume this is a commercial route? If so, contact the publishers via their website and tell them of the problem; there may already be a fix.

I took the liberty of emailing EuropeanBahn about this and got the following reply:

"Hi.

We are aware of the bug in the said activity, and a patch will be released to fix this problem shortly.

Seeing as it was released on the 24 Feb 2006, I can say it's disappointing that we still have to wait for a patch, but at least they admitted there was a bug and they are planning to fix this though the release of a patch, sometime in the future.

as a temp fix i think that if you press ctrl + 5 at the same time a bar across the top will appear with collisions off, this will only happen with msts bin 1-6 (i think) anyway, give it a go

I can't run MSTS Bin as it seems to crash MSTS. The system seems to be more stable without it, which I can't do anything about.
