I thought that is what private messages are for?
also am I the only 1 who thinks that BDD and Kate talk so much on here to boost their posting scores? ;)

Strangely, although very few have noticed there are other forums such as the 'dear dairy' chatter forums that have an amazing amount of waffle on ripe for, well, waffle. Also a few of the regulars (MarkW and JD, Caldrail) or over there on a regular basis. Here's a gem from JD

Conan the Libriarian, wasn't that Arnold Swartzenegger!

Talk shows are utterly false and the only one to watch was Gary Shandling who did a 'spoof' one.

Now, I don't object to off-topic stuff at all...cos at the end of the day non-stop trains is pretty boring. In fact at times I'm losing the will to live with it! But it hasn't half p***ed me off that when Blackfour first come out he got no end of stick as did I for merely posting below him with the occasional jokey 'double entendre'....which was a joke not a chat-up. Yet at least eight or nine people have been making remarks about Kate (although I doubt she cares, nor is it her fault). Which is fine by me, but isn't there double standards going on?....

So I ask you:

To waffle or not to waffle, that is the question....

''am I the only 1 who thinks that BDD and Kate talk so much on here to boost their posting scores?'' No. i dont post one reply after the other. i only reply if i have to say something and keep it in one message... then i might get a reply so i reply to that. If you dont like my ways i can always save you any more problems and leave the site (not that i want to). Me and BDD have fun. But if thats not ok, then fine

Now come on Ladz lets not argue. I for one enjoy Basil/Dale's conversations on here and do not feel he waffles at all. We are all supposed to be layed back and enjoying the site. I also feel Kate is hard done by here too, i am very happy indeed to see a member of the opposite sex taking an interest in our hobbies (and no its not because i have sex on my mind :) Basically we are at risk of loosing some good people here if we all start complaining again. I dont know about double standards goingnorth, if you feel thats the case have a word with NeutronIC about it. Finally goingnorth it was you that started the post to find out "what floats our boats" Having found out about us we then discover you dont particularly like train spotters but you are interested in the railways (Talk about double standards here) I am not in any way wanting to cause an offence but lets leave off Kate and Dale, it will be a sad place without them if they decided to leave.

Regards Tim :)

Well I can't and won't talk for Kate, but this isn't the wild west and I am not going to be run out of town by a Junior school attendee...

Having said that, If I am annoying people on here, perhaps I should go to somewhere like trains*m.com and leave you to have a site full of boring, sunday afternoon bowling old age pensioner type Q&A sessions... After all, from the thread about how old people are, there is a danger that this place will end up like a school playground and the order of the day will be who has the best collection of conkers....

IKB - whats it like over there.....?

Not criticising Dale and Kate (or you actually Tim). Nor I am I criticising Blackfour, JD nor anyone else that livens up the site.

I think you mis-understand Tim (or I've written it badly). A few people objected to me waffling and joking...but as soon as a female turns up on the site suddenly the rules fly out the door.

I don't mind, nor am I arguing. I'm up for copious amounts of waffle. I like a bit of joking and banter. I wish the boring people would stop moaning. :)

No skin off my nose Tim what you do in your spare time!!! More power to you. What I was trying to find out (cos I was interested) was how many people are spotters, bashers, modellers, computer people etc. There is a myth (albeit public/media myth) that if you take any interest in railways then your down at the end of New street platform taking numbers.

I suppose (like a lot of people) I really get a bit miffed when people say 'Arrh so your interested in trains? Got any good numbers lately?'. If was merely trying to prove there's a bit more to Railways (and MSTS) than meets the eye. One thing I hate is stereotypes. If certain spotters had 'upped' there image a bit, then the rest of us might be able to be a little more open about our hobby. Not crawl around like some street rat at the mere mention of anything rail related.

Hi Goingnorth,

Possibly me over-reacting a little bit. But i felt that there was a chance we could loose Kate as a response to this. I think RAARAA needs to understand that some times we do go off topic. Basically it all boils down to someone saying something interesting which does not involve trains but a lot of people want to know the answer to. It then stems from there, i am still wondering what Dale thought about Shakira when he met her hehehehehe, so hows that for going off topic. So basically i guess i was a little quick to come to the defence of Dale and Kate. Come on RAARAA grow up and join in the friendly banter and understand its going to be part of the site. Plus i forked out £17 premium membership so i dont want to leave just yet

I have to agree with you there. I also feel there are a certain "minority" in the hobby that let the side down. I also get the feeling of a street rat aswell. There is a lot more to the hobby than taking the numbers as you say. I have built an extensive library of photos of locos etc and feel its a part of railway history. It also allows you to travel across the country, to places you might not have ever visited. I feel our the reputation of our hobby has been damaged by certain people in the limelight over the years and cannot be repaired. I have learnt to get used to it, and accept that most people are going to dislike my hobby. I suppose its one of those things. Anyway i know how you feel though, if anyone asks me what i do, i just say i am interested in trains the usual reply is "ooohhh your a train spotter"
   i am used to it now
