Rivet counters, in my opinion, are sad little people with nothing better to do with their lives. Just ignore them Pete. But please do not withdraw your work and deprive the majority, all be it the silent majority, the pleasure of your creations.

HI Pete,
I am a member of the VERY silent majority. If it aint broke don't fix it.
I for one am impressed by any one who can make activities work. I keep trying but find all the brick walls.
Maybe those who moan should learn themselves, or be happy that someone bothers for them. But will the moaners read this thread?

So please keep writing your acts, it's what keeps MSTS going.

Thank you for bothering.

GOOD LUCK

What the eck's going on? I'm off the forum for a couple of days and some muppet's gone and upset me old mate Pete.
Well Pete. You're better than a lot of the people on here. Your activities contain realism and more importantly, they convey your enthusiasm for the railway that it is set on. Because of work, I don't have the time (or Ballyshannon) to run even half the activities you have created but the ones I have run I have always enjoyed. Not only that but you always take the time to test mine.
So. I raise a proverbial Dram to your good work and say keep 'em in the library and keep your spirits up.

I don't think this is so much a case of rivet counting but a general unwillingness in some people to get involved, preferring the activity writer to do all the necessary work in the interest of laziness on the downloader's behalf. I think most people who have the Blue Pullman (and many 47s) realise there's always been a bounding box problem with it. For those who don't or are new, Pete's readme file clearly states that it "has a bounding box issue". Now some will know what this means, others may not. Those that don't simply need to do a little bit of work for themselves (yes, isn't life hard..) do one or two searches, gain an understanding of what this problem is all about and try to fix it. If they either cannot or don't wish to, they can simply delete the act - it's their loss. But to blame the act uploader is dodging the issue. And it's no good saying that it was assumed the BB problem had been fixed, else why would Pete bother to state that there is a BB issue? If Pete had been the author of the Pullman model, well I'm sure things might have been different, but he doesn't hold the copyright on it so his hands are tied. So he's done all he can - how can anyone possibly claim to be worse off? Or would you rather have no Blue Pullman acts at all?

To those moaning about the act - get off your arses and try fixing it yourselves, or just don't bother downloading it. But you can't have it both ways and in attempting to justify this view, a talented and well-respected member of our community has been upset to the point of considering a mass withdrawal. Do you moaners not remember the devasting effect of last winter's withdrawals? Is this really what you want to happen again? I'm not suggesting that the forum should simply become a back-slapping exercise as constructive criticism is necessary and healthy, but some thought, sensitivity and common-sense should prevail. Everyone has their breaking point - let's all hope this doesn't prove to be Pete's...

Just my two penniworth...

Hi Peter,

Please don't withdrawer any of your work, I know exactly how you feel. When BD2 was released both me and Don got quite down over the amount of problems and moans about activites not working and loads of crashes so what did we do..............

Start work on CC5 new Cannock Chase.

Please don't lose heart as there are some of us who do value your imput and creation and activity makers need other activity makers to bounce ideas off.

Pete,

Speaking as one of the silent majority, loved your Midland Pulman activity. Downloaded it two hours ago, did a quick search how to change a bounding box, fixed the bounding box, had a cuppa, ran it, took a few screenies and played about with them.

I include my favourite here as a way of saying thankyou.

Please continue you excellent efforts.

Hi Ashley and Pete,

I have to agree with your point Ashley. There's plenty of help with fixing bounding boxes on here and now that I realise that that's what the problem is I wonder why instead of complaining they didn't just ask for help on the forum?

Hi Geoff - I just think that complaining in such a manner is easier, gives the poster the (false) impression that they've somehow taken the moral high ground, and of course it promotes confrontation and ill-feeling - all of which are what I sense to be the aims of the post that started this - after all, it's not the the poster is a newbie... and it was all rather patronising.

Cheers

Pete,

I think the response to this thread shows the main agenda, from the appreciative majority?

I always start my replies to those being patronising with "You seem to be suffering from delusions of adequacy?"

Hi Pete !

I can only add to what all the others have said, don't let a minority deter you from doing what you enjoy doing most, losing your satisfied with your work audience ! You will only be playing into their hands, like kids in a playground getting satisfaction out of provoking a reaction from those they are trying to annoy.

I had my share of getting the occasional personal remarks in the forums, nothing to do with the subjects under discussion and felt many times that I should be doing something else.

But after over 13000 posts and e-mails, all of which did something to help train simmers and enhance MSTS and what they are doing with it, getting numerous messages of gratitude, has stopped me doing so when in the same mood as you are in right now, but has annoyed others, many of which have left the forums !

Don't join them !

Yes the admins should concentrate on eliminating all which is not constructive. It's not so much what is being said, it's how it comes across ! Like one of them saying a while ago that I am posting too much ! ;-)

Take care, O t t o.
